Nice shade of blue, is that an Alpina-only colour?
Alpina 5.0

Nice Plate but not Original Alpina .
This is only a 850i
The Colour can be "Gletscherblau" , GLACIER BLUE in English
-
How can you be sure?
I'm guessing speedo needle colour..? , and/ or the engine gives it away?
If it is a regular E31... I am going to personally call the vendor and tell them, £35,000 is a lot for a fake. -
Check this plate: http://www.8er.org/files/bilde…/D110025_20120728_006.jpg
Then check the numbers:
There are 57 5.7 and 97 5.0
On the plate from the fake is No. 9318
At the original the plate is not on the glovebox. It's on the roof in the center at the mirror. Then check the speedo meter....
Compare it:
http://www.8er.org/forum/showt…97&highlight=alpina+5%2C7I'm not an Alpina Expert, but my guess: It's a fake.

Thanks, Larry (Stefan?) & loeti mit 8 (Dirk)?
I'm amazed a used car dealer will advertise a fake car like this.. it is like normal rules don't apply to the E31
-
This car is about as close to a real Alpina as it gets - albeit without a VIN starting with WAP....
Thanks for keeping your eyes open BB!
The car is CB57486, produced on May 16, 1991 as a bog standard BMW 850 and later converted with Buchloe delivered parts to what we have come to know as a Sytner "B12 5.0".
They have been talk of the day a couple of times and Jud summarized about them many years ago.
The fantastic thing about BB´s find is that CB57486 was indeed the last piece to complete the Sytner puzzle.
We now have evidence (almost covering 10 years worth of archiving) for all of the 5 E31 M70´s that have been converted through Sytner.
CB27063 - no Sytner plaque, possibly only Alpina lookalike

Apart from the "wrong" VIN for them to be counted as Alpina B12 5.0 none of the 5 was equipped with the Alpina tagged blue instrument cluster.
It is not that there weren´t any RHD Alpina B12 5.0 cars - the Sultan of Brunei received 2 of them. One was auctioned off last year for a little less than a song

Why Alpina decided not to make "real" B12´s for the UK remains a mystery - both BMW VIN´s (CB57803 & 4) for the cars sent to Brunei were earlier than CB57850. It is not unlikely that Alpina at the time was not registered as a car manufacturer in Britain and hence not able to legally import using their name (same situation in France).
Cheers

What a great story and investigative work - so, it's almost an Alpina.....
-
Wow, fantastic!
I don't know if I like the 35k price any more now, but -
