Changing rear diff fluid on diffs with rear oil coolers

  • Rear differentials here in the US do not have the available oil cooler coil on them. Is there any difference in the way differential oil is changed in a rear diff that has the oil cooler as opposed to one that does not have the oil cooler? Also, is the capacity the same, or does one have to allow for extra oil in the cooler coil?

  • Hi Roger

Same way of changing the oil as it has the same filling and draining caps , a bit tight on the ones with rear oil cooler due to hoses passing just over the filler cap

More oil needed to fill the oil cooler if that is drained or replaced ( if not disconnected cooler holds the oil ) you will have to disconnect and use pressurized air to drain it if you like all oil to be replaced.
I filled up , took the car for a drive so it fills the cooler itself , and then refill whats needed
If I remeber correctly almost half a liter , but just by memory as this is two years ago
