It's a parts fest!!!

  • Its hard to stop spending when you've recently bought an 8  at the prices that the stealers charge there are some good bargains.

This week is not going to be cheap as it goes, I dropped my car into a specialist BMW garage today, I am having an Inspection II done, even tho it doesnt need one I thought why not.
Also I am having the leather all repaired and sprayed so it will look like the day it left the factory.
Not a bad price for £760, he is replacing 3 pannels on the drivers seat and 2 on the passengers where there was signs of cracking, he also is going to add a thin layer of foam on the bases of the seats (where you can slightly see the heating elements)
Spray them both in the colour to match the rear and then professionally clean all of the remainder leather (back seats, door cards etc).

I will post before and after pics when she returns at the end of the week)

  • angry me

With all due respect the guy is a rip off!!!!!

I emailed him and explained to him that I was willing to purchase several parts and was prepared to even pay the price he wanted. I asked him If I could drive direct to him so that I can pick and choose the parts that I want but he didnt want to know. Then I started bidding on several items and asked him if I can collect all at one go rather than do sevral trips AND AVOID PAYING POSTAGE FEES, again he refused.

Then!!!!! for the past 7 days Ive been biding on a O/S Front side lamp (Some of you may remember earlier last months I had a few problems etc) It stayed on £45.00 and I was the winning bidder all week.

Anyways I took the bid up too £150. for the drivers side and £96 for the passenger. As I was bidding I noticed that this other person who was bidding against me was presistent to win the bid. Although I cant prove but I felt suspicious that maybe this chap who is selling the parts is getting someone else he knows to bid against potential buyers in the hope of bumping up the price even more. Originally he was trying to sell this car as a whole car on ebay but was unsuccessfull.

Then I realised................. The prices for these parts are ridicoulous.
I rang the dealership and was told they can supply the lamps for £115.00 each inc vat. So Ive ordered both and thats with a traders discount a friend at the dealers gives me.

So far the bid is up too £350 for the lower bumper. At that price you might as well buy the flippin thing brand new!!! its only another £40.00 squids which was what I was quoted today.

Ive bid for one last item and this is before I felt i was being ripped off and thats the rear electric blind. Mines got a clip broken. I hope someone out bids me coz this has left me very bitter and very very ANGRY!!. Im pretty sure who ever bid against me for the lamps knows that these items cost far less at the dealerships and thats BRAND NEW!!!

Anyways the only bargain I ever got on ebay was for an immaculate 840ci sport nose cone which I bought for less than £200 and theres no point ever selling that.

  • Agree with bimmerman, guy is a rip off.

Many parts are cheaper brand new, and i too think he has someone bidding agains other bidders to push price up.

  • Bimmerman - I e-mailed the guy and got the same answer as you.

I was bidding for the o/s lamp too, mines got a cracked lense and was after a cheap(ish) replacement
I bidded up to £82 and gave up, similar story on the rear blind.

but I agree, I feel these parts are artificially over priced by a third party.

    Regards
    Nicky B

  • As far as the front indicators are concerned. At £155 that was cheap...

I had to pay £125 ish for the light assembly and £110 ish for the bulb holders!!!

His add did say includes bulbs?

But a lot of the prices are way over priced though.....

  • Nope.... no bulbs wiring etc... Thats another thing most breakers they sell you a part complete in most cases but this guy for instance is selling items completely seperate as single items. Then again obviously he wants to make his money but hes being too greedy. I feel the whole thing is a con and stongly feel that here is a third party whos bidding against potential buyers.

And as for the side lamps not the pop main lamps im sorry but theyre just too expensive for a second hand part!!

  • I think theyre 3pc not too sure really. They are the type two alloys. Its a shame theyre 17 inch really. I dont really like them. I would like to try and source a set of 19 inch Hartge Modular wheels with the deep dish. The fronts have to be 8.5 or 9's and the rears have to be 9 or 10 so I can dress it with big tyres. Theres this guy whos got a set of two 9's and two 10's and theyre in need of full refurb but hes just being too stuburn to sell them at this stage. I had a set but the wrong set up as they were 8.5 all round.

I will be refurbishing my set of AC's soon and may put it up of for sale on ebay with tyres. Im told they used to cost £2500 brand new but im only asking £800 with brand new tyres and I think thats a fair price considering that I will have to spend £200+ for refurbs.

  • Those are the 17" in the pictures...

I got them refurbed at pxwheels.com in exchange for some TVR Griffith wheels I had left over from a previous car....

I think any decent shop would charge £150/wheel for doing this...

The cool thing about the 17" wheels is that the outer ring is Bright Annodised, almost as shiny as chrome but not quite!!. No more laquer peeling or polishing needed. Just wash and Go !!!!

I think I will get this done to my 18" ones over the winter...

Pictures of the 18" wheels coming tomorrow....

I had a bitch of a time finding the rear 10" wheels. They do not make them anymore....Good old Ebay.de

  • Parts OE

Ive just paid £144.00 inc vat for three items/parts from BMW.

The O/S Lamp which sits on the front bumper and the two rectangular grills which sit either side of the lapms all for £144.00

The guy breaking his 850i on ebay supposedly sold this lamp for £155.00!!! No way!!!!!!!!!! There definately must be a third party because anyone who owns an eight is bound to know original main dealer prices before bidding for items on ebay. But like a muppet I actually bidded as high as £150.00 just for the lamp.

  • Just taken delivery of a couple of cheap (thankfully) trim panels from this car being broken on Ebay.
Arrived hanging out of the packaging and are in an unusable and oily state.

They were a fraction of the cost of new ones - but still.

  • Was the guy selling all these parts the same guy that tried to sell the car initially for more than £6k? If so he ended up not able to sell it at £3495!
The car had 209k on the clock too!!

Agree that there maybe a third party bidding these part prices up too.

  • Bimmermans Wheels

Bimmerman - I have the same wheels and due to insurance requirements had to get a quote for replacement. ACS Germany advised Eur800 plus VAT in Germany. Assume E800 plus VAT in UK and that would be GBP2,560 - right on the money for your GBP2,500. Personally I like them on my silver car and reckon they look great on yours.

  • Hi Steve,

Don't actually NEED any panels, but I was going to get a spare pair of interior C pillar trims (one with the lights in) and play around with mounting some extra tweeters in them.

Just an idea - but there's no hurry. :)
