Thanks guys, the main problem with the Becker units is that they do not have a display hence cannot see maps etc, but I will look into them, there are may aftermarket units that have almost everything I want but they do not look stock.

Hi all, awoke this morning and took my car cover off to find my drivers wing mirror hanging. It has been parked in the driveway so I do not think it was hit with a lot of force. I suspect someone leaned up against it. It does not look broken but I can see three pins which should slot into the holes but i cannot get them in. Am working half day today so will try to sort out this afternoon, as I am desperate to use the car tonight i would appreciate any advice that will save me from struggling with it for hours in the cold. Thanks.

Hi to all, back from my honeymoon, I understand the weather has been awful since and still is and hence not had much time to take my 8 for a drive. I was looking into possible replacements for my car stereo as the CD changer no longer works. Ideally I would like something that is DVD/CD/MP3/USB compatible, also sat nav would be nice. I have seen some of the motorised systems but do not like the fact that once open they would cover the display unit. Also a touch screen and something that looked close to stock would be nice. Price range under £300, am I being too optimistic?, all suggestions welcome.

My excess is £300.00, sounds as though I am paying more than most, but my wife is 26 years old so that may be why it is higher, she would not have let me bought the car if I had not promised to insure her!

I thought I would just bring this up in case it helped anyone, having bought my 8, I was looking at insurance and have gone with Hagerty Insurance for £507.00 for 5000 miles/annum, kept in driveway overnight, use as a second car only, for myself (30yrs) and my wife (26yrs). You can still keep your NCD on your daily driver. All other quotes were almost twice as much. If I parked it in the garage it would have been around the £280.00 mark. In addition they were very helpful on the phone and have a few other 8's on their books.

I also looked at CL500's instead of an 8, especially the ones that are fully loaded, the interior I think is nicer than an 8, but it just does not have the same road presence/head turning looks hence stuck with the 8.

Hi all, Thanks for all the help, I bought the above mentioned E31 yesterday drove it back home and loved it. I had the EDC checked out and it worked, fingers crossed it remains that way, only problem was once I tried it in steptronic mode the car reported a low beam failure and the drivers headlight went out! So now I have to source a replacement bulb, any advice would be welcome, I have to admit I am not very technically minded so I suspect I will be posting quite often, thanks to all.

P.S. I live in Uxbridge Middlesex so would be grateful if anyone can recommend some independents, previous owner had it looked after by Clifton Autos in Clapham.

Thanks Guys, I like the sound of EDC although must admit did not notice it much when I took the car for a test drive, I was told that it takes time to kick in, also how do you know when the EDC have failed? £300 per side does not sound to bad, what is the alternative?

Thought I would bring this to the top, I know this has been discussed before but I have been advised to stay away from EDC due to the high costs if the system fails, how can you tell when the EDC has failed and if it has can I replace it with specialist/sports suspension shocks/parts? and how much would this cost?
Any info would be very much appreciated.

Thanks once again guys, am doing a bit more research on the car as well as looking at some others, I think the EDC shocks were not replaced but he had some of the other suspension parts done. I have been advised to avoid EDC but how do you know when the EDC has failed? and even if it does fail if I replace all the EDC shocks with standard/specialist shocks will this be an issue?

I have started looking at possible examples over the last few weeks after drooling for over a year. This weekend I saw an Orient Blue 1997 840 ci sport with all the toys including EDC, rear blind, headlight washers and heated seats. The present plate is K5OHO, previously P63 VMR, Vin: WBAEF82060CC66444. It was previously for sale, I think at Hillcrest in Surrey last November. I was hoping someone new something about the car, perhaps previously owned by a member, I plan to buy but just had a few queries and would be grateful if anyone could help.
There is slight lag when you kick down which is not present in steptronic mode, ever so slight perhaps less than a second, is this normal?
Also the EDC shocks, are they all around the car, as the owner claims they only apply to the front of the car and not the back, hence he claims to have had the back ones replaced.
I do have more questions and I plan to do all the checks but any help would be much appreciated.

I have been lurking on these forums for the last 12 months after I decided to buy an 8, but unforseen circumstances put things on hold, however I am now looking to buy one over the next 3 months and any help and advice would be thoroughly appreciated.
