For me it is everything it stands for and the vision BMW had at the time of producing the 'ultimate driving machine'. To a certain extent it was designed and manufactured without compromise, it was meant to be BMW's flagship car.
BMW would not think of doing the same, regardless of the economic climate.
In the end I suppose BMW were disappointed because it was a 'failure' in terms of critical reviews and numbers sold, and for this reason BMW continues to shy away from the 8.
However with time I think they will see that what they produced was true classic, a bit like the child you are disappointed with, but in the end comes good.
I wanted something that was fantastic value for money, stood out, looked good, and was different, and to a certain extent was a little bit more than 'just a car'.
I did contemplate getting an M3/SL/6, but I never drive 'too' fast anyway, and I wanted something different, something that stood out and the 8 was the car for me.
I still enjoy seeing the look on someones face when I pull up, and also when you pull close to other drivers in their 'performance' cars.
In my opinion even an Aston Martin does not grab your attention as much as the 8, primarily because they are so rare.
The 8 is a piece of automotive history, a bit like a Jag E-type, it is a supercar (MSN's top 50) and represents a car manufactured without compromise by one of the greatest automobile manufacturers of all time.

Some feedback on my Falkens, I have just replaced the front two tyres with some Falkens, to match the back, and was surprised at how much better the car handles.
There seems to be less pulling to the left (although the tracking is still out a bit), the car is a lot quieter on the roads and the bumps are less palpable (compared to the previous Avons).
I paid £92.00 (inc VAT) per tyre - fitted, so generally pleased with the results.

Just some feedback on the Gliptone Leather Products:
The cleaner I think is not very good, although thankfully it did not do any damage. However the conditioner I thought worked quite well, restoring some of the sheen and natural oils and an authentic leather smell.
    Both were applied once only.
However my original scuff marks are still there and I will now be trying Dynamix Dyes.
According to my 8's build sheet the interior is:

    Individual data

    Remaining interior trim: M5SH
    Processing individual
    Sign "individual"
    Z1XX Upholstery
Keder an Fahrer- und Beifahrersitz in Nappa ultramarin
    (Nr. 8 124 351)
Restliche Innenausstattung wie bei Leder Nappa silbergrau hell,

    Schl.Nr. M5SH

    Colour ORIENTBLAU METALLIC (317)

    Upholstery SONDERPOLSTERUNG/OHNE FARBANGABE (Z1XX)

However I am a bit confused with regards to whether the colour is Silbergrau hell (light silver - grey) or whatever solderpolsterung means. So all help appreciated.

Having recently registered with the registry and having had my build sheet sent to me (along with a copy of the autotrader advert put out by the guy I bought the car from) I would like to say thank you to Jud and all involved with registry, and good luck to Reinhard in continuing this invaluable service. :top:

I would agree, always an anxious time, however I have found that if you time the MOT for the same time the car needs a service/repairs etc - it makes it a bit easier. :top:

Thanks James, I was hoping to get someone who could come to my house to refurb the wheels, the website for guys on wheelers dealers states they can do it for £60-65/wheel. But will shop around.

Thanks Arnie, I read the thread when it happened, but noticed you did recommend it later when TallTony was also looking to restore his seats, I shall give it a go this weekend, weather permitting, I have not ordered the scuffmaster - but will just give the leather a good clean. :top:

    Hi all,
My quest to bring my 8 up to scratch continues, any recommendations on alloy refurbishing? I have heard about the guys who worked on wheelers dealers but am open to any suggestions. I have throwing star alloys but saw the pics where the lip was polished and I thought they looked superb, so keen to have this done.

Thanks to all who replied. Thanks Nifty50, I spoke to John, however he does not cover my area, however he recommended Erroll Francis, who also workks for Dent Devils, so he is coming round this weekend to have a look.
The nose cone may have to wait, but I will get a few quotes in the meantime.

It is grey with blue piping, to be honest it is not too bad - mainly aropund the side supports (atleast I think so), but if there is anything out there that would provide some improvement at minimal cost I am willing to try it (rather than have the seats re-upholstered).

    Dear all,

My nose cone has a horizontal crack between the two grilles, is this something that can be repaired? (DIY job with araldite?). I also have a small ding/dent front drivers wing - any recommendations as to getting this fixed i.e. mobile dent repairs etc.
Alternatively would it be better to see a body specialist to get both sorted (and the rust on the sunroof), any recommendations (preferably someone who has worked on an 8).
I live in Middlesex/West London, but do not mind travelling within a 30 mile radius.
    Thanks.

    Dear all,

I have trailed the threads on restoration of the leather seats, and liquid leather seems to be the product of choice, but is there anything that will help get rid of or reduce the scuff marks on the leather?
All suggestions would be much appreciated.

Horrible stuff, I had a bird poo stain on my bonnet, it took absolutely ages and a lot of hard work with the sponge to get it off. Hoping to give the 8 a good clean in a few days (when I get some time), and will be using a clay bar and giving it a good wax.

    Hi,

I have the original throwing alloys, however the previous owner put low profile tyres on, but I would like to revert to the original profile, does anyone know what size the tyres should be?

I have Falkens (265/40zr17) on the back and they have been fine.

    Thanks.

    Deep
