Hi Wayne the 6 is going to be a new way to get through a whole load more money modding!!
The 8 is more solid, the main difference I notice is that the engine in the 6 is higher revving with the 6 gears available the step runs through the gear spacing much faster, keeps the revs higher, changes can be harsh.
The 8 is more refined and in some ways quieter but the modern toys in the 6 make up for the losses.
Biggest issues with the 6 for me is very noisy run flat tyres, high wind noise from the door mirrors above 90ish oops, 60ish J Lumpy and noisy idle.
Best bits. Performance, Performance, Performance, you have to drive one (playfully)! 840 sport can match 60-80ish with the M5 diff mod but the 6 is hands down winner on all else. Also the handling is a riot
Other thing I really like is that it’s a Jekyll and Hyde character, the difference between “D” non-sport and step “S” and sport is like 525D v M5, both ends of the scale, two cars for the price of one, one car for me (M5) and one for the wife (525D)
Truth is if I could find a low miles 840 sport and bring the interior and toys up to date, loose the pop-up headlights (never did like them) I’d pay twice what I would for the 6.
Part-ex’ing the 8 was a mistake, should have kept it just to look at…8 is still the top of the BMW tree, just a shame the design and kit is getting on a bit.
So back to the 6…New wheels, lower it, M6 Mirrors, de-chrome, Paddle-shirt retrofit for the step, M6 bumpers, tuned exhaust....perhaps not!! I'll keep it for a couple of years and the part for an M6 I think.
You're not thinking of being unfaithful to your "8" are you? If your passing my way you're welcome to a drive in the 6.
Cheers. -

Job change forces the sale of my 840 Sport so I though I'd offer it up here before it goes on the bay...

Just noticed an ad in the paper, Halfords are doing a Flip sceen sat nav with MP3 (and Ipod capable) installed for £399!!
-
In-Dash
I have the Pioneer Avic-1X in my car together with the CD Changer, Rear view camera, Ipod and Bluetooth adapters and its rubbish. Phone and Iphone are almost unusable (Iphone sound is great though, much better than the Ipod)
The Sat/Nav is average and the user interface is terrible even for a touch screen. I had a Becker in my Crossfire and it was miles better. I also think the Beckers would look better in the dash.
If you'd like to buy a Becker Indianapolas then I'd be more than happy to swap all my Pioneer kit for it...

Steve, Do you want some original Alpina wheels for your new toy?
-
I'm interested if ziggystardust doesn't take it , how much?
-
500rpm no A/C no warning before or after, just my luck
-
My 840 has started doing the same thing, runs for hundreds of miles no problem then just stops when aproaching junctions. Rock solid idle, no missing, nothing then just stalls at low speed, no obvious electrical failure and restarts on the button. Happened three times so far. Maybe the engine management???
-
Not much better in the UK.
Just had a NIP through the door, full dual carrageway, midnight, no wx, good vis, well lit, not built up area, barriered, no slip roads or juctions, empty, 1 mile staight stretch- Ticket for 60mph yes bloody 60 on a dual carrageway....*ossers... speed limit 50 !?! why?
For "speed camera" read "tax collector" bl*ody morons

Photo's of my alpina's that are now open to offers...
Photo's on the car further up this thread, these are 9x18 genuine Alpina's with new centre caps. It's tree sap & brake dust on the close-up, there are next to no marks on the finish.

Hey thanks Marv..
-
Sorry, My bad, Yes £250 group, £350 on it's own.
-
///M Turbo, Love the wheels on your 8! Check out my Crossfire
-
///M Turbo, Rob750, Thanks for the conformation
Wayne, Unfortunately the £350 is only on if we can get enough people involved.
I think I may need to go ahead with mine in any case, I have modified enough cars to be able to judge any worthwhile difference. One thing is for sure, I'll be brutally honest afterwards.
I've had the LSD done and I'm very pleased with that, If as ///M Turbo (sorry, don't know your name) indicates the chipping is equally noticeable then we're on a winner for sure!
