doesn't that cut through the central support in the bonnet frame?

in pieces!

sorry nick. didn't see your first post. the NACA duct was £12 +P&P from ebay. I don't think it's the same shape and size as the alpina one. there are plenty of options available.

i'll be glueing for 2 reasons.
1. i've never used a welder
2. if you search this forum you'll find that welding the bonnet will damage ityour vent measurements appear to be correct, though i doubt alpina designed them in inches

sounds like a lot of work. i'm upgrading my initial reply to extremely impressive. i've been tempted to try this method but i don't think of got your level of patience.

awesome. that was my plan too. I was thinking of trying to grind the excess ally off once it had set. i can't believe that you've left the bonnet on. your back must be killing you. or have you jacked the front up?

steve, are you planning on covering the sides of the vents or leaving them open.
I'd like to replicate the alpina bonnet but this looks tricky to make and fit. I would appreciate your opinion. -
very helpful revtor. many thanks.

thanks for that.
I had an e38 before and i never really used any of the buttons so I'd rather keep it simple (and cheap)

does anyone know if this steering wheel fits the e31?
it's from an e36

impressive.

they will be flush fitted. i was tempted to place the NACA/ NANA duct on top and use filler cos it was easier when cutting. don't think i made this clear in previous post
-
the final pictue just shows them in place. I've made a "frame" underneath. I'm gonna glue the frame to the bonnet then glue the vents to the frame. masking tape is holding it altogether at the moment (purely for show). that's why i went for 1.5mm ally. with your 3mm ally i'm guessing you had to put some packing between the bonnet and the supports.
-
i was shaking making the first cut. it was much easier than i thought it would be. normally i cut galvanised steel at work so the bonnet was much easier. the NACA duct was quite tricky. 3 practises on other pieces before i had the confidence to cut the bonnet.
-
I'm glad my vents are only 1.5mm thick. Looking good though. Definitely worth the effort

Thanks Steve. Just the boring bit left; sanding and glueing. Which particular Sikaflex did you use? I'm looking at the 512 on ebay.

nothing glued into position yet. overall i think it's gone well. I'm more relieved than pleased at the moment.

sorry for any stress. not intentional. just trying to get as much help as possible before making the cut
-
so you cant see into the engine from the sides?
