Hi - can you give me the run down on this car CB57344?
Cheers -
Arnie I think it would be a real missed opportunity if BMW did not give the 8 Classic status, this would only mean one thing, the demise of a real classic car.
As for steelerships - this is just another example of why we should not ask them for help!! But if the parts are not called up from these dealers may be BMW will look at the 8 as a lost cause anyway - -
Nice shine - but sorry wheels not for me

Keep up the good work we all need your expertise as the poll shows!! -
A few weeks ago I posted a help message, I have a problem with my steering. When on full right lock, returning to centre, I sometimes feel a catch - like the steering coloumn has a burr on it and it's catching on somthing -Only happens when cold, could this be a loss of pressure due to a leak on one of these hoses? we cannot find any obvious signs of leak, the resoviour is maintaining it's level - any ideas?

Located under the water screen bottle, this pump has seals which perish, you will need to remove and replace the pump - I don't know if there is a repair kit? does anyone know of one?
-
Lloyd - the process is quite simple - you need to drop the exhaust at the manifold connection, fit the pump to the tube and apply pressure, not to much just about 1bar should do it - the pump should have a guage to indicate the pressure and also any possible loss and use your hands arround the manifold - awkward but possible - 30 seconds will tell you if you have a leak.

Hi bud I have a specialist who has worked on 8's previous to mine, he knows his stuff, a little way from you, he is located in Pershore Worcestershire - If you are interested PM me and I will forward his details
-
Thanks for the info Neil, might give him a call, by the sound of it looks like a possibility
-
The engine looks like a straight 5.0l M70 unit so year would be upto 93?
-
Neil would it be a good scrapper - I am looking for one to break to get spares so mine can keep running?
-
Andre - If the leak is at the manifold or before the cats it my solve the problem as the sensors (Oxygen) will be upset by the increase of oxygen they are detecting, and then activate the warning light - so I would start with the known problems and work thorough them.
Let us know how you get on -
Hi Andre
The check engine light could mean many things but if it is running strangley, I would start at the air mass meter, Lambda sensors and cyclone valve - also presure test the exhaust back the the manifold to check for any air leaks you don't need much presure a small foot pump with a guage it just needs to hold the presure. -
Arnie when you are testing the sensors don't forget the cyclone valve at the back of the engine it's only a small diaphram but does perish, this will let air pass and upset the air mixture.
