I am afraid the cost of fuel has a much greater impact on the resale value of these cars! They are certainly not an investment other than for personal pleasure. I have used main-agents because there isn't a trustworthy specialist near me but have had to complain about poor standards of repair on several occasions. Whilst the job was put right, it was bloody annoying considering the costs - however the warranty on workmanship and parts has proven useful.

I noticed on the Wuffer.net website that some of the guys have a metal mesh grille fitted into the lower front intake of the CSi (M-Tech) Front Bumper - in front of the auxiliary fan. They directed me to a U.S.A. website reselling MK Motorsport products. http://www.mk-bmwe31.com/servlet/StoreFront However there are no contact details in order to get carriage costs for the UK. I have been on the German website of MK Motorsport but they appear not to have this product.
Does anyone know where I can get this in the UK? I am fed up of pulling leaves and stuff out of the auxiliary fan! -
Heh, Tall Tony - where are your heater controls?????

Small rust bubbles on the surface are deceptive. I had such on the corner of my roof, the leading edge of the sunroof and just above the rear screen. When the body shop stripped back to repair and paint they discovered large holes in the roof. I've had a new roof and sunroof fitted.

Thanks guys, as ever, the help gained on this website is invaluable - a real community feel.

Just for final clarification, can someone post a picture of the correct position for parked wipers? Here is what mine look like.

Stevep840,
Can you tell me what your experience is with the ESS kit - were the results worth it? Was it easy to fit?
Angus -
reinhard,
That's exactly what mine are like. Parked just on the glass and the driver's wiper sweep off the glass onto the rubber surround at the end of its up stroke. I'll get the setup checked out. Thanks guys. -
I suspect that my wipers are not parking low enough - there have been some comments about them being hidden below the bonnet line when parked. I've looked in the sales catalogue for 1999 and you can't even see them in the BMW pictures. Mine are about 1.2 to 2" above the rear bonnet line when parked - is this too high? I seem to get quite a lot of wind noise above 50 MPH from the screen area.

Noggie,
I am surprised you have not gone for an ESS kit - (Norwegian company). http://www.esstuning.com. Tried & tested with 2yrs warranty and no engine mods required. -
I stumbled across this:

Someone has coverted an 840 to battery power - what is the point???? You don't own an E31 if you are worried about fuel consumption or global warming!

Lovely! I presume a BMW approved car, nice low mileage and with warranty? - Welcome to the community - you will find lots of enthusiastic support on the web. Hope to see you at Gaydon next year - see: http://picasaweb.google.com/wo…leangus/GaydonBMWShow2008

Absolutely stunning! The hours that have gone into that degree of preperation must be significant! Would love to have a workshop like that - looks just like a BMW dealership workshop - you don't happen to work there do you?
With the weather in the UK, the salt they pour on the roads in winter and the loose stones they "chuck" into wet tar as a means of road repair, the underside damage is hard to prevent unless you never drive the car.

Just posted my pics from the show on Google web albums http://picasaweb.google.com/wo…leangus/GaydonBMWShow2008
You may recognise your cars. I took some of the "bling" shots for my son (25yrs) who couldn't join me at the show - the boot-fitted ICE systems are not really my scene but the "kids" love it! Its great to see all ages enthusiastiuc about the brand.
Did you see that Fraser Nash - what a beautiful car and superb condition! I was also tempted to buy the Z1 on sale at the show, but the wife made me see "sense"!
Pity that BMW doesn't actively support these events - They should positively recognise the enthusiasts who support their brand and demonstrate the great design and durability of the products. They miss a great marketing opportunity - but I guess they are more interested in selling new cars!
Any of you going to Tatton Park later in the year?
Angus. -
Hi Peter,
Unfortunately my car was not repaired in time for the show, so guess Tatton Park is the next big show for me. We still went to Gaydon and had a great day - saw your car (I've posted my Gaydon pics on Google Web Albums) and thought it was superb - love the Dakar Yellow with yellow interior colour combination - I've never seen that before. It was a pity the cars were parked the way they were, with noses to the back of the next row of cars. More thought about this would have made a stunning impression with all the E31's in a perfect line of low "snouts".

Boot lid (if lugs where boot stays connect to are all OK and not loose). Also radiator if sound.

Fantastic!
These shots really show what a superb, sexy shaped car the E31 is - a timeless beauty! In black it looks menacing - how you get that shine (and keep it) is amazing. Black cars in the UK are impossible to keep looking like this without being stored undercover and washed after each trip out!
God, I wish for the weather you enjoy!

I am the proud owner of a 1999 840 Ci Sport in Imola Red (one of only three made in this colour - 2 sold in the UK & 1 sold in Australia) however mine has Lotus White leather interior with Imola Red inserts (the only one in this combination). I bought it in 2004 from a BMW main dealer. It's done 70K miles.
Just recently I noticed a small paint bubble on the corner of the roof and decided to have it attended to. When the body shop cut back the paint they discovered a significant amount of rust and holes through the roof! So it is having a new roof and sunroof fitted, hopefully completed in time to exhibit at Gaydon!
The car was bought with 18" Schnitzer Type 2 alloys, 8.5J front and 10J rears (now on ebay) but I decided to put it back to the originally manufactured "Throwing Stars" - I managed to find a set on Ebay and have had them refurbished by The Wheel Specialists in Birmingham.
It doesn't make sense to consider the cost efficiency of owning one of these cars - you either just LOVE them and will lavish whatever it takes to keep them pristine - or - you get a boring box and save your money. Life is just too short!
Hope to see some of you at Gaydon.

Hope To See You at Gaydon
I will be exhibiting my 840 Ci Sport, if its fixed in time too - (it's having a new roof fitted). See you there!
