:top: Looks good - I hope you have as much fun with yours as I've had with mine - keep it original, the 'throwing stars' wheels are the right wheel for the 8 - unless of course you can afford a set of 'Alpinas' - they are the mutts nuts!
Just one small point, the throwing star on the drivers side front wheel is on the wrong way round, it's a near side cover.
The throwing star covers are directional, you should have 2 left and 2 right side covers. The fan side of the blade should always face forward so that it draws air through the wheel to help with the cooling of the disc.
One of many fun things about the 8er !!

I registered 3 times with PH with 3 different Passwords and still could not get on the site so made other plans. Sounds as though the narrowboat would have been more suitable than the car - torrential rain and floods - we'll have to wait until they do something in the sunny North!!

I have the same problem scuffing the air scoop on the curb !!
Perhaps blue-tacking a 'Spirit of Ecstacy' on the front roundel would help, after all RR are in the Group now aren't they? :harhar:

...... BMW have missed 'guaranteed delivery dates' of 27 July and 31 July for my front coils so far - they are now promising 20'ish August in Germany + 4 days at my independent - I've found a single 2nd hander at FAB in Gloucester as a 'get me to Gaydon' hopefully, but it is going to be very tight. The most annoying thing is that if they hadn't lied to me (twice!) I could have got a 2nd hander from Gerry in May and not missed 3 1/2 months summer driving !! :banghead:

I have had 840 ci sport springs on order since May 2 - manufacture date is July 27 with delivery early August - if they are late I will put 2nd hand on for Gaydon then the new ones when they arrive. BMW UK have stated the correct part number for my car is 31.331 090 792 @ £77.39 each, but they have said the M Tech coils are chassis number dependant. Hope that helps! :harhar:

    Hi Guys
I'm surprised about the comments about no thread on Gaydon - Peter has started 3 at least - check his on 13.02.09. there are 27 replies (including many of the 'regulars'!) and 662 views to date!!
ref the wrenchfest on the 15th I believe Peter is full at 20 attendees but you could email him in case anyone has dropped out.
As Peter said, he would like 50 8's at Gaydon on Sunday 16 August if possible and the idea is definitely not for a 'car park!'
As for timing - marshals (Peter incl. again!) have to be there for 7 am! Show cars, ie all 8's with a Show Pass (plus a ticket for each passenger at £11 on the day or £9 in advance, either via Peter or 01225 709009 to BMWCC) in our cases have to be in place between 8am and 9.45 - The show opens to the public at 10.00 am and minimal car movement thereafter for safety reasons. All show cars have to remain in place until 4 p.m.
People tickets include entry to the museum - good for at least an hour, or longer if it's raining.
For those that don't know, the Aston Martin test circuit is nearby and you can book a session (3 laps I think) for £12.50 and take a passenger for an extra fiver - could be a problem getting from the display area to the track though between 10 and 4.
Those of you that have acces to the BMWCC magazine will see that the '8 series birthday' has been advertised every month for the last 3 months. I've done an article this month on the 8er with a couple of photos and a contact email address "tm.courier@btinternet.com"[/email] for any one who needs any information about the Gaydon day out.
We're doing our best to spread the word and hope it will be a great day for all 8ers - please ask if you need more info - if you have time to help or want to make a suggestion, fire away, all will be considered!!
If we know in advance we can book an auditorium / cinema for sessions on Sunday - anyone who does BMW or 8er related talks, slide shows or W.H.Y.? let me know and it can be put to the Show Committee.
Oh, and anyone who can guarantee a sunny day, please step forward.
    Cheers, Tony. :winkwink:

:top: Thanks for all the responses - great community - I was going to go for the Eibach option but will now ring 8Tech first.

I hear what you say about the original failing at 60k, but 60k on UK pot holed roads with winter salt etc is completely different to 60k on CA roads - my brother lives in Oroville and you guys have it easy !! His 5 yr old Audi TT looks like it came out of the showroom 2 years ago.

Thanks once again, looks like I'll be at Gaydon ! Tony :)

    Hi
Read the recent suspension articles with interest - my problem is when I drove my 8 to the local specialist on May 1 for a service (SORN'd since end of Octber) there was a bang up front followed by creaks for the final few miles.
An hour later he rang to say "you won't be taking her to Duxford this year!" The front right coil spring had broken into 2 neat halves !!
So we ordered two standard coils for the front - and waited - and are still waiting. BMW AG has come back and said not a single BMW 840 front coil in Europe, on back order from the maker and they will not give a delivery date.
The way its going I will miss Gaydon, never mind Duxford!
My independent says he will only fit BMW for something so important - but I have phoned Europarts and they could not supply front coils either ...... so what next, just wait or are there other safe options, the car is 100% original at the moment (840 Ci Sport - Sept 1998 - 59,000 miles). Tony.:dontknow:

I agree Michelins are my favorite - I need some for the 528i se sport ( 8 is still SORNed !!), currently got Dunlop Sport 235 45 Z ZR17's on- Kwikfit quoted 160 each if I bought 4, for Miches, + £5 for valve, £8 for balance and £3 case disposal, that's £176 each.
Costco (biggest Michelin fitter in UK, Mich only) £97 each if I bought 2, £89 each if I bought 4, including VAT, free valve, free balance, filled with nitrogen (keeps em cooler apparently) and no carcase charge - cheaper than Avons!
Worth the £20 a year membership just to get tyres there! No affiliation , check for yourself etc etc.
    Tony :top:

I've been asked to pass on that there will be a strong BMWCC presence at the Classic Car Show, Duxford Air Museum on Sunday 3rd May featuring O2s, 6s, 7s, 8s and Alpinas.
9.30 am start, entrance £9 pp which includes all the Museums - location north of the M25 between the M11 and A505 - last year there were over 70 BMWs there.
All interested 8ers please contact Bernie Howell on 07789 005540 or "'bern_howell@hotmail.com'" "Please note there is an underscore _ between

the first and second names" (I'm clearly a Luddite!! Chalks and a slate at school - I kid you not!) :winkwink:

    Yes that's right.
Peter started this thread as a result of me asking the BMWCC if anything was being held in Germany in Sept 2009 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch of the 8. It appears not. So I asked if Gaydon would make the 8 the Marque of the Show and the Board approved it at their January meeting.
I then approached Peter as the leading font of knowledge and connections in the UK 8 world and he is happy to head up the E31 event with my assistance.
So that's where we are - taking on board everyones views and ideas and looking at what we can and cannot do.
Soon we'll offer an outline itinery and ask for attendees to opt for their choice (Saturday 15 and /or Sunday 16 2009) and start to make the arrangements.
Obviously it's a BMWCC event and they will have to sanction what we propose for the Sunday. Whatever we arrange it won't suit everyone but we intend to offer a great weekend for '8 lovers' and hope that a lot of you will be able to attend some or all of it and have a great time.
    :birthday:

The idea of having the wrench fest on Sat 15 Aug - and Gaydon on Sunday 16th - is to make an 8 weekend of it, ie we all only get into trouble once!! The chances of 30 - 50 8's getting together for 2 separate meets during the summer would be unlikely to say the least - IMHO.
If we could all get together at Peters on the 15th we could also have a dinner and chinwag in the evening - with a 6am start on Sunday for the 125 mile run to Gaydon !!
All opinions welcome - but we need to make it a good one as it will be a while before the 8's are the official 'Marque of the Show' again.

One of the advantages of the RBS Royalties Gold Bank Account - about £12 a month fee - is that you get free Green Flag cover in the UK for as long as you have the account. We have 3 cars and as it covers the car I am driving at the time its great value. When going abroad we pay the excess for that period.
Another benefit is free travel insurance. Obviously this is not a recommendation but check it out for yourself- I'm sure other banks have similar accounts!

Wow, great response already - our aim is to get 50+ to Gaydon on Sunday as Peter thinks the current biggest UK 8er meet to date is under 30 - unless of course someone knows different?

Ref the wrench fest -on Saturday 15th - Peter is offering his place in Zeals as a possible location, although it does add 260'ish miles to the round trip for those coming from north of Gaydon. We are keen to know if that will put some people off the wrench fest and if so do we need to arrange it nearer to Gaydon?

We can also have the use of a lecture room at Gaydon on the Sunday if needed - what talks / films /sessions would be of interest? Please let us know.

All ideas for Saturday and Sunday itinery gratefully received. Thanks.:top:

..... when I bought my 840 CiA in Aberdeen Nov 07 I took it to Rockvale an independent in Stockport and they found the fuel filter was original and one rocker cover was leaking (offside I think) and that was only serviced by John Clark of Aberdeen. (Appearently one side of the 'v' engines run hotter than the other causing this side rocker gasket to fail first ??)
    We live and learn.:top:
