    Hi.

I am in the process of installing a Gert ( rv8flyboy ) "beta" box for the E31 :

and have a question about routing a set of cables from the oil filter housing to the cockpit....

The logical path should be through the fuse/relais box... but i do not want to disturb the electrical gremlins... and have not seen an easy alternative...

The idea is to use a "T" like this...

and connect the original oil pressure switch , plus a temp and pressure sensors...

I will check all of this stuff without routing the cable to the cockpit ( everything connected at the engine compartment and a single cable to the IBus ) , but if it works , routing will be needed.

    Any feedback will be welcome.

    Regards.

    Eduardo.

Despite they looks good, i would prefer ones with all the internal seals changed. May be you can buy them and then change the seals ( aprox. 20€ per set at ebay ).

Anyway, refurbishing them is a DIY work with some basic tools...

    Hi.

Yesterday, after some minor changes replacing a bulb at the instrument cluster, the Airbag light started flashing.. I tried to get the error code and/or erase the error message using the DIS... but no luck... as the SRS/airbag module refused to communicate with the DIS ( other modules worked.. ).

I have checked all the wires coming to the airbag and everything seems to be ok, but SRS module still refusing to be reached by DIS...

All fuses are ok, and looking at the ETM i am not able to get any clue about what can be happening...

    Any advise ?

    Thanks in advance.

A little late but maybe useful for next time...
You only need to connect one of the openings. The gas chambers are communicating. Leave the plug on the other opening.

    Cheers
    Reinhard

Oh..., mines were opened at both sides, this is why i made that.

Taking in mind for next time..

    Thanks Reinhard.

I went the same route as Nick and fitted 2 95Ah batteries. I can leave the car for 2 months and it starts straight away.

I was told from a battery retailer that bosch and varta batteries are made in the same factory and are identical inside the casings.

+1... i have also fitted the biggest batteries i could.

Main issue has been connecting the two air vent holes in the battery with the single air vent tube at both sides.. but solved with a single "T" an a few centimeters of plastic tube...

    Hi.

Past weekend, we at the Spain E31 club, enjoyed some laps at Motorland speedtrack. Some videos taken from one of our cars ( .. speed in the HUD in km/h ).

    Thanks Roberto for sharing.

Our cars ran fine with no issues... well... no more issues than the expected ones... that is , no brakes at the end of some laps and some overheated clutchs...

    Cheers.

After checking all the cables connected to the DME1 that could cause the issue, i have not found any broken cable.... so, disconnected the air temp sensor, the CPS, the pulse generator, water temp sensors... cleaned all of them with a contact cleaner... plug them in again, and voilá... now working fine.

    Cheers.

    Hi.

After rebuilding my engine and fixing some minor issues we have detected ( DIS ) that one of the air temperaure sensors located at the end of the intakes seems to be infoming the ECU about an abnormal temperature ( -49º C degrees ), so, engine is running tooooo rich on one side.

As far as we know this seems to be a broken cable ( had switched both sensors left to right and some issue ).

Just before starting rebuilding cables would like to know what are the matching pins on the ECU conector to check for continuity.

Does somebody have the DME pinout around ?

    Thanks.

    Hi all.

I have just found this post on bimmerforums about a guy deploying a set of boxes that will allow to show different messages on the MID :

    http://forums.bimmerforums.com…p?p=22274973#post22274973

The issue is that, now he knows how to send messages to our MID, but not how priority is sent to the iBus and how often the MID is getting refreshed.

He has also a 2,4 or 8 inputs boxes that will show all the parameters you need, and that may be configurable.

Is something similar around ( at 8er ) ? Does somebody has some good info about all of this ( mainly iBus ) on the E31 ?

    Thanks.

Just an update to let you know this can happen on an E31 with the damn design about gearbox oil and water too close...

Oil cooler at radiator, cracked and water went to gearbox... creating some mud that was locking the valves and killing the clutchs...

Now, a new radiator is in place and gearbox has been fully overhauled... Hope next week it will be on the road again.

    Cheers.

This car hates me... for sure... :banghead:

Today i have "a few" power on D,1,2,3, but full power on R....so converter must be ok and oil filter must not be clogged. Oil level is ok (checked on N or P with engine running after driving the car for 10 minutes.. )

Now calling some gearbox specialist to check for a quote.. I am afraid that the clutches were on "the edge", and they have failed just when we started the car after one an a half year stopped... ( may be having the incorrect oil level ( the infamous 3,5 liters ) killed them )

Thank you guys for all the info.

    Eduardo.

    Thank you guys.

The issue is that the gearbox was working fine when we stopped the car ( one year ago ) for some engine overhauling ... and the only maintenance task done on it, has been the oil exchange... ( filter ( and also oil ) had been changed 3000km before ).

    Crossing fingers...

    Eduardo.

    Hi.

According E31 owner´s manual, it is 3,5 liters without replacing oil at converter. I tried with 3,1 liters in one of the oil replacements with same issue.

    Thanks
