Heartbroken but she's now sold, her replacement is very nice and from the BMW family, a 635d Sport !

After 3 years 9 months sitting idle, I'm glad to be back
For a multitude of reasons including, getting remarried, renovating our house etc ...... but the main one being my insurance company deciding after taking 3 yrs premiums they would not insure me due to an illness I had now 7 years ago. Thankfully all resolved now
Driving the Mini has been lots of fun and economical, but it's not an 8 !
After replacing the batteries, discs, all the fluids, tyres, filters, calipers refurbished etc etc, CC66550 fired up first time and sounded probably as good as the day she left the factory.
An MOT with NO advisories, after sitting idle for such a length of time is truly a testament to how well these cars were put together.
I've done about 800 miles so far and the feeling of driving my 8 again is sometimes overwhelming....I've planned a few mods, which I really should have done before now, starting with a steering wheel closely followed by centre arm rest.

Spotted another 8 on the M77 whilst in the mini again !!!!
avus blue i think -
Sadly I've had to make the decision to sell my beloved 8
I would like to thank everyone on here for your pearls of wisdom & knowledge, especially Gerry 8tech.
You never know once the new house is renovated I may return, in the meantime, best wishes and safe driving to all
Cheers

Cheers Arnie, will pass your advice to my mechanic

Ordered an abs pump/unit from ebay today ....hopefully back in business soon.....meanwhile in snowy Argyll.....borrowed my mate's Merc ML270 CDI....copes with the snow & ice admirably
-
Since the 8 was unleashed in 1989 I've always wanted one !
on 16th dec 2008 I realised my ambition/dream and got an 840ci sport.....to be fair she wasn't in the worst of nick but the potential of an awesome supercar was there......so....after a respray and wheel refurb and some tlc and a few goodies from 8tech.......she's an awesome daily driver with such satisfaction in every journey !
Thank you BMW for the 'ultimate driving machine' -
The mechanic took the pump motor off, 2 or 3 bolts, the inside of the motor was full of rusty debris plus it had floating magnets !!!!
Mine is a '97 ci sport so it may be different to that on your '93 850 ! -
Hi All, I've had a few health issues recently, hopefully all in the past and I can continue enjoying my 8 for many moons to come !
While having a winter service, my mechanic found the cause of my intermittent abs/asc lights problem. It seems that the magnets inside the abs pump motor have corroded and become dislodged !
My questions are - are there any repair kits for these pump motors........ or are they available as a surcharged replacement unit similar to that offered with alternators, calipers etc......or is there a cross reference with another Bosch unit, as the dealers apparently don't supply the motor only ?
Cheers, Alex -
Spotted a metallic green 840 on the M77 earlier today......I was in my fiancee's Mini Cooper
-
Thanks guys will give it a go tomorrow !
Cheers, Alex -
The "check" button on my OBC seems to have stuck in !!!!
Any hints as to how to get it operational again ???
Cheers , Alex -
Camber plates were my first modification from Gerry, and after 31k miles use they are a "must have" !!!!!! the first 2k miles were awesome but after fitting camber plates, superlatives fail me !!!!!!
I've since fitted braided hoses & rear shock plates !
Many thanks again to Gerry for his pioneering upgrades -
My 8 has been my daily driver for 18months now and 29k miles later just a water pump, rear pads, window regulator and shocks all round have been replaced. Add to that tyres, filters & oils, respray & wheel refurb and it's been a pleasure to own & drive !
Both my previous 5 series were faultless......all in all a big thumbs up for reliability and driving pleasure ! -
Finally got round to refitting the throwing stars, very pleased with the result of refurb job pics to follow !
Anyone in Scotland looking for wheel refurb try Archie at smartalloyglasgow.co.uk top bloke & great job
