Do we need "umweltplakette" for the car during the meeting ? Are we entering the internal city zone ?

Thank you, hotel looks very good. Next year meeting perspective made our small club very excited, we are looking forward to it !
-
Do you plan to arrange the common accommodation for the participants ? There is quite strong group from our club coming, we already started looking for the hotel. Should we make our own booking, or wait for your proposal ?

Czesc Armin !
Roads are great, incredibly spectacular, but without 4WD would be not the best idea...
By the way, we drove through the highest motorable pass in the world, 5600 m (!). It took us 2 days to get through the altitude sickness on 2 km lower height to be able to do that. It's pretty serious staff...
Armin, please keep me informed about that Caucasus tour, we are very seriously willing to join you next year ! (pz@professcars.com)

get the "Seven year itch"
Oh yes, I know what you mean. I already had it twice, but in my case it was a "four year itch". Tried to sell a car ("tried" is a little too much to say, my wife was always laughing at me while I was talking on the phone to the potential buyers - enough to say that no-one came to see a car after such conversation ). First time after I bought a Camaro - simple American fun-machine, with a looks that turned more heads than my (not pimped) 8-series (oh yes, I liked that...). After a few months of not driving the 8, I took it for a ride. And a selling process stopped suddenly. Now I drive both cars one after another, are soooo different ! And I love them both. Must say that now 8 starts to attract more attention, while Camaro starts to be just an old coupe. Keep it in mind, the same will happen with Z3, M3, M5 and whatever else. 8 series seems to be like a good wine, while other BMWs are simple Schnapps...
A year ago I had a second "four year itch". This time on the point of a Z4. The effect was exactly the same...
So, the conclusion: don't sell 8, buy what you have in mind (don't listen to any advice, maintenance costs have nothing to do with a pure desire ), keep both cars a year or so, then decide which to sell, maybe both, maybe none...

Pawel
Brilliant pics -- you have just beaten me to this little jaunt, as a friend of mine and I are off to do this in my CSi in 2 weeks, although we are starting from London.
Did you drive it both ways, or just West to East (Sibiu - Bucharest). What other recommendations do you have for fun drives nearby?
Thanks Keith
Ha, so you will have twice as much drive, as I had. I would recommend to take a road via The Alps with the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, so you will have a comparison:
A few more recommendations, hope could be useful:
- don't take a road 76 (Oradea-Deva), it's in a horrible condition, but in return gives very nice views and the real Transylvania sights,
-other main roads in Romania and Hungary are very good, in most cases new
- recommended hotel in Sibiu: Ana Hotel http://www.booking.com/hotel/r…89a6087278dbe951bca381X12
- the Transfogaran Road has a number 7C, it's not so easy to find and don't take a main road number 7, which goes parallel 30 km closer to the west
- leave a hotel early in a morning, after 10 the road will be quite crowded, especially during weekends
- the really spectacular is a short part, maybe 20 km, so it's better to do that part a few times, and then proceed south direction Pitesti, than to come back next day
- I came back using the following roads: from Curtea de Arges road 73C, then 67 to Horezu, then very small roads direction Novaci, difficult to follow, because are not shown on navigations, but with nice sights of Carpathians from the south side ( good to see: Horezu Monastyr, it's not in the city, but close to the mountains a little to the east, quite easy to find with road indicators). Then follow road 66 Targu Jiu - Petrosani. Very nice, but not so high.
There is also a road 67C, famous Transalpina, but it is not covered fully with tarmac, it's rather for suv or 4wd cars.
Romania south of Pitesti and Bucharest neighborhood is really nothing interesting, just an agricultural or industry flatland - not worth visiting at all.
Someone told me there, that my registration number (DWR) translates to the Romanian language as "tough guy" It really helped on a road, especially while my car has quite a noisy exhaust. The policemen always turned their heads away and whenever I stopped to ask for directions or sth, people were extremely polite -
Oh I wouldn't be so sure... It is fantastic, worth driving a few thousand kilometers to see, but The Best ? Not quite...
This year I made also Scotland, as far as to Orkney Islands, but with the other car. Oh, I was so sorry not to have 850 with me... The roads there are so great as well !
I will keep looking for The Ultimate Road...

Hi, long time no see...
Do you remember Top Gear and claimed World's Best Driving Road ? The one in Romania ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T…%83g%C4%83r%C4%83%C8%99an)
I just came back from there, made 2500 km to check it out... Hope you will like to see a few pictures... The story begins 2 days ago with a morning fueling in the town of Sibiu:

Das ist aber ein lustiges Haus auf dem Kopf.

Yes, that's the our PL 8-series club annual meeting invitation. I put it here for the reasons well explained by Revtor. Of course I can move it somewhere else, if that's a problem...
Anyway I hoped it will be spotted by any eventually interested English speaking persons, also from less distant countries. You will be very much welcomed.
Unfortunately there is not much time to book the hotel, later in the season it will be not so easy. If anyone is willing to join, please let me know asap, so we could arrange everything. -
