Mercedes working on an engine.. shiiiit! Nothing good ever came out of that, the last decade!

Given the choice, I always prefer the BMW V12's.

More about this colloboration on the V12: Because the opportunities for mass market V12 engined cars are expected to decline over the next decade, there are still buyers out there that want a V12. BMW AG's internal projections show that continuing to produce the existing N73 engine (except for Rolls Royce) to a shrinking market was not a good capital investment. This is especially in light of tightening CO2 emissions and fuel economy standards. Mercedes came to the same conclusion. It is thought that if they can pool their engineering resources in jointly developing the next V12, then it could be profitable to offer a V12-engined car in smaller quanitities.

Of course, like other contemplated Mercedes-BMW ventures, this could blow up and not happen.

Not doubting you Jud, but I'm sceptical on the twin-turbo V8 front for M cars. They've always denied they'd ever resort to forced induction. Where did you hear/read that?

No offense taken. As a reporter, you must validate such news.

I got my news from several different sources over the last two weeks.

The November 2008 issue of Roundel Magazine, the BMW Car Club of America's monthly publication, also re-confirmed the V10's demise. See below.

Because of ongoing market conditions, BMW AG announced today it is cancelling its new 8 Series, citing the following reason:

"The German automaker cites a distinct lack of profitability as the main reason the CS project has been canceled."

Also announced is the V10 engine in the M5/M6 will be discontinued and replaced with the Twin Turbo V8. In addition, BMW and Mercedes are discussing plans to jointly work on an upgraded N73 V12, presently only in use in the Rolls Royce vehicles. The 760i/Li was recently cancelled.

    Tough times at BMW AG.

This vehicle belongs to an interesting fellow, albeit an enigma.

If anyone does inquire about this car, there are two questions I have about this car:

    1) What interior fabric colour does this car have? (my guess is SCHWARZ/SILBERGRAU DUNKEL LEDER (0496))

    2) Specifically which magazine did the write up on his wide body effort?

    Cheers,

    Chassis CC66607

I recommend buying the 4.4L 840CiA Sport, either this one or another newer one --- especially in an Individual colour.

Since the seller has posted the chassis number, here's the build sheet for this vehicle:

This car is a regular M62 840CiA Sport without the special upholstery trimmings that other Sport models have installed.

As implied by the seller, it's just weird that this car was a late import to the UK.

I may be missing some important information here, but the seller claims the car was imported from Germany. Then why is the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car? Or is this a RHD that was imported to Germany and then back? Confusing story...

It's a fantastic story. That's why it needs verification. This car was most likely a RHD M62 840CiA from the beginning.

I've just mailed the seller via eBay and asked for the VIN, (and explained where to find it) I'll let you know what I can find out.

    Thank you!

    Hello everyone;

I was wondering if anyone in the UK would be willing to help me sort out this car:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA…iewItem&item=220281541051

First, the pictures are dreadful and it's difficult to figure out the color scheme for this vehicle.

Second, the story the seller is sharing about this M62 840CiA being imported into the UK in the year 2000 seems fantastic to me.

And lastly, the car mainly has been sitting for 8 years only traveling about 20k miles. There's got to be a good story here.

Would anyone be interested in helping me with the following:

    • Contact the seller and get the VIN or last 7 digits of the chassis number?
    • Re-verify the seller's storyline about the car being imported into the UK in 2000.

    Thanks in advance!
