The only way to move this forward is to contact TFL and ask if the 850ci is compliant as the original poster did as shown below:

I contacted TfL and after an extremely tortuous process they've confirmed my 840 is ULEZ-compliant - Hooray!

Basically, you need to go to the TfL website, register with them and then start communicating. They will ask for a certificate of conformity from BMW, which, amazingly, I got from Customer Services which showed NOx emissions of zero for my VIN. You then have to send this certificate plus a full copy of your V5C registration document to TfL. This is tricky because their website download facility doesn't seem to work. So send as attachments to an email instead. Finally, they've just emailed me a letter saying I don't have to pay the ULEZ charge!

If, when talking about the ASC+T pump unit (the bit with all the brake pipes going to it), the specialist repairer failed to find any fault codes - that's hardly surprising as there are no electronics in it - just the motor and ten solenoids. The ASC+T module is in the left-hand footwell. The modules rarely go wrong, but if the ASC light is coming on then fortunately the ASC+T system can be read by INPA with a moderns USB (one of the few things it does read)!

Backfiring usually means the CAMshaft sensor is failing - more info here:

ASC warning on its own usually points to a kinked ASC Bowden cable between the actuator and secondary throttle

The FTP lighting strips are still available from BMW - they cost around £ 400 for a pair in the UK. You don't need resistors for the high beams or the FTP high beams - they are not checked by the LKM!

Yes, the CD player will play CD copies (WAV files) - but only if they are burned at slow speeds - any higher than 4 x and you will get a Disk Error - even then, they are more prone to skipping

    Yes - more info here:

The second one will do the trick - the first one won't as it is from a post-facelift E38 with DSC, there's loads on Ebay from £30 and up - they were used on the E32 V8's and pre-facelift E38's along with a few other models...

You may be slow - but you ARE committed!

P.S. Mine's probably just as rusty - but being Mora Metallic it doesn't show until you are rudely close. Silver or white is not a good colour to have in this climate....
