Get a new one as it requires a certain amount of mangling to get it out as described here:

It certainly could - a good drive before the test helps a lot. I always book my MOT for the first of the day and then give the E31 a good blast on the way there to arrive a few minutes before the test - and with it's 200 cell cats it just squeaks through.....
-
It will probably turn out to be that errant cruise-control loom!
-
You could give Reinhard a PM - he's done it and is still around (now in the UK)....

Took a bit of searching but I found the original thread in the end, the member is Paul_M - and some more info here:

"The one part that can be challenging, as you state, is getting the plug that connects the cruise control loom to the rest of the car's loom. Mainly because the instructions I had were very vague to its actual location. Being that I've now fitted and removed a cruise kit twice, I don't find it much of an issue.
It's only that one connector that needs to be found; the stalk connector is part of the cruise kit, so you just run it to the same place as the wiper stalk connector, and it clips on. You then mount the cruise control stalk (again it just clips on to the existing runners) and plug the connectors together."

The only member I know who retrofitted CC to a RHD model was Paul Morgan - I was going to buy the kit from him and he messaged:

bottom half of the plastic shroud that covers the steering column is
slightly different on cars equipped with cruise control, to
accommodate the extra stalk. It's possible to modify the existing
shroud, but clearly it is preferable to get the original part. I have
the proper cruise control part fitted to my car, and I'd be willing to
swap it for a non-cruise control versionI never got around to doing this as I bought my present E31 which had CC

That's because it should be under the left-hand of the dash!
-
The detents on the drivers-side temperature setting can over-ride the passenger side temperature setting - so there should be no problem using the wrong country variant except your passenger can boil or freeze you! I've never had those switches apart so can't help with them....
-
Great find! I watched those video's when he first put them out and thought that the car was in pretty good nick and needed just a little bit of care and attention....

Yes, that's what it does - all explained here:
http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e31/IHKA.pdf#page=20
Maximum blower speed overrides intelligent control - as does maximum and minimum temperature settings on the drivers temperature wheel....
-
This is what mine looks like:
-
It's under the LHS front wheel liner - you can just about see it with the bonnet open if you follow the line of the brake pipes....
-
This is nearly always the problem - and the 15 error code confirms it - if you are lucky you might be able to get it running again, but my guess is that you have had the problem so long that the pump motor is dead:
http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e31/T…ing_ABS_Pump_Problems.htm
The motor can be replaced (second hand), or the whole ABS/motor block can be replaced (second hand or very expensive new).
P.S. I'm still here!
-
Thanks - that's useful information!

Have a look at the rev gauge - is it going over 5750 RPM? You might be hearing a long-standing problem which was masked by the efficient BMW exhaust system, and now you can hear everything that is going on!
-
It doesn't really matter what diff is fitted once you are out of 1st gear. Sport mode shifts gears around 5750 when the throttle is flat on the floor - are you misfiring before then?
-
Come on - keep up with the latest additions:
http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e31/Timms_BMW_E31_Fuse_Finder.htm
The fuel pump is top of the list, but you never know your luck with the fuse (Fuse 23 on the V8)

No matter what the ambient sensor values - when the drivers temperature wheel is set to the lowest setting (past the detent) the valves should be closed

No matter what the ambient sensor values - when the drivers temperature wheel is set to the lowest setting (past the detent) the valves should be closed. The lowest setting is the 'service' setting - as is the highest setting - both positions override any other sensor. So, if the valves are OK then the IHKA module (the one in front of the sword) is faulty - something that Frankie went through a few years ago:
http://www.frankies-bmw.com/8s…8series_heater_valves.php
I would say though, that what Frankie went through is extremely rare - in 99% of cases, the valves are the source of this problem.
