You can go to 285mm on the rears without any problems - that was the OEM width on the csi as was 245 on the front:

Falken can supply tyres with rim protection, model FK510 - I have 235/40 R18 on the front and you get a reasonable buffer before the rim gets clouted. Another alternative is Eagle F1's....

I reckon the WD40 might well blast out that stuff!

I had a bit of luck actually cleaning out the gearbox selector switch:

Yes, photographs cannot do Orient Blue justice, very difficult. My interior started off Silver:
...and then I swapped in bi-colour cards from a '91 850i:

My last one was Orient Blue!

What a great story and investigative work - so, it's almost an Alpina.....

The circuit diagram shows them as coils (and low resistance you would have thought):

First question is: Do the lights work? Or is this just a error in reporting?
I have seen this problem before (but on my E32) - it was caused by an electrically noisy headlight-leveling motor. As the motor operated it bunged out huge positive and negative spikes into the wiring looms - and as the LKM checked each bulb these spikes caused errors in deciding whether the lights were working. In the case of the E32 the loom to the headlight-leveling motors could be disconnected in isolation.
So, in that case the lights were leveled and then the loom to the motor(s) could be disconnected permanently. After that no errors were bunged up in error. All Euro E31's have headlight leveling motors for the dipped beam units - but disconnecting is not so easy as there is not a separate loom - although there may be a way to disconnect the loom from withing the pop-up light enclosures.
I think what I would do is disconnect the pop-up lights and the connectors and see if this stops errors for the remaining lights - worth a go!

We've been through this before - and I'm still looking for the: Quad Cam - 32 Valve - Individual and Sport badges for the boot!
-
Mine has the 4.4 badge - but, although it is from BMW it is not an original fitment on the E31. As far as I remember it was from an X5:

Who was the previous owner - Edward Scissorhands?
Joking aside, well done for saving this one!

I really shouldn't assume that UK owners have a V8! Sorry!

A new pump/hydraulic block is extremely expensive - but fortunately there are oodles of them around as they were also used on the 'lesser' models. And yes, it is in front of the nearside front wheel behind the lining:
You can get the motor running by shorting out contacts 30 and 87 on relay K94:
...which is bottom left in the picture above

Get your pencil and notebook out - here's your work for tonight, and don't forget to do the exam at the end:

Although it is for the later DSC - it covers ASC+T
There are other ways to test the pre-charge pump (by shorting across the relay) to rule out a seized-up pump (which is the most likely fault)

Hello Jud, great to hear from you!
