For what it's worth, my #2 car was experiencing a random ASC light whenever it felt like it. As described in other posts, there was no way to get the light to go out besides restarting the car and it would of course, re-occur as it felt necessary rendereing the ASC useless.
The ASC test as outlined above gave me a code 18 which is: "Leak Defect Plunger Accumulator" which translates to "Drop in plunger accumulator pressure". Possible cause: "Plunger accumulator leaking due to internal or external leaks". I knew I had a seepage issue in Pressure hose #14
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/sho…&btnr=32_0299&hg=32&fg=20
So I replaced Pressure hose #1 (which was also leaking) & #14 as well as Filter cartridge #13 and O-Ring #12.
Preliminary indications after 5 different random distance trips is that the leakage was indeed sufficient to cause my random ASC light problem as the light has not come on again thus far.
To those of you having random ASC light problems, inspect the entire hydraulic system for leaks and replace whatever is leaking. It (appears to have) worked for me. -
First thing I would check are the coils. If you smelled hot or burning tar/bitumen. I would suspect one or both coils has suffered a meltdown. Feel the coils (engine off and cool) around the bottom for melted tar, a hole in the coil or any evidence of a tar like substance under the coils.

Had the same squeaky problem on 3 cars using Bendix pads. Went back to OEM pads on all 3 (850.SC400 & Isuzu) and sqeaking disappeared. Yes more dust but I hate dust less than I hate sqeeking/squealing brakes.
I assume that the installers applied antisqueal compound to the back of the pads correct? -

Where in Canada? I have 2 Brilliant Red 91's and am in BC.
Contact me in email wuffer@shaw.ca if you please. -
First off, where are you located?
I have a spare set of kidney grilles but as normal, some of the mounting tabs are broken, otherwise good condition
Have a spare CD unit with cartridge but will sell as a unit only.
Have a spare cell phone but am unsure as to what specifically you are looking for.
Also have a full set of spare relays but nothing that matches the number you have listed. What are they for and where are they located?

Generally a sign of low coolant and air in the system. Check coolant level when cold, add coolant as necessary. Recheck coolant again when cold over the next few days and top up (to the recommended level).

Supersprint. Remus, Eisenman, are some options

Dont worry about questions as we were all newbies at one point. Terry is by far the better source for 840 related answers as I am an 850 guy but there are many common failure areas to both cars. I would also suggest that you check out the E31 Message Forum on Roadfly (http://www.roadfly.com) as it is where most of the North American owners hang out and it has a tremendous searchable archive.

Installation of new batteries is pretty simple. Have to remove both rear side panels in the trunk to access each battery. Right side will require removal of the CD changer (if equipped). If you dont drive the car in the winter would suggest the smallet (800cca ) battery available rather than the 1100cca units which are quite big and more spendy. Also make sure that you get and use the vent kits for the batteries. IIRC they were around $120 each for the smaller batteries which I have in both cars. While I do drive the #2 winter beater in the winter it doesnt get all that cold out here.

If it is Faisal's car I agree with Terry. I saw his car at the EC 8-Fest and it was immaculate. Probably better now.
Go for it if so as it is a great deal. -
Guess I didnt read carefully enuff.
I have Interstates in both my E31's.
On more time, where in Canada are you? -
Where in Canada are you?
I bought my Battery Minder from Interstate but Canadian Tire also carries a similar unit as does the BMW Dealer (spendy tho) -
Headliners are good in both my cars from the standpoint of the sagging issue. However if you press on the headliner (as in stretching during a long trip) it leaves dimples in the headliner that dont come back out - a sure sign that the foam backing is breaking down. Some local guys have had success having headliners re-upholstered using a thin headliner material, Don't use the normal thickness as it will make the headliner very difficult to re-install and cause some binding in the sunroof. Learned the hard way.

Here's a ski bag passthru I found on Ebay.

Niether of my cars has the pass-thru. Terry's does, Is it retrofittable? Yes, if you want to cut a hole on the bulkhead and purchase all of the parts you will need to do the job right.
I was serious about the "we need to talk" comment in my earlier post. Contact me via email at wuffer@shaw.ca with your phone number and I will call you at a convenient time.
