Where are you located? I recently helped a new owner with his recently imported Japanese Spec E31. I am in Langley BC just outside Vancouver where your car will likely be unloaded. We need to talk. I have 2 Brilliant Red 91's and am not an axe murderer.

Gears and shaft. I do not lubricated the brushes, only thoroughly clean.

The E31 Message forum on Roadfly is a great source for tech info. Excellent archives and many owners there daily.

Also, heater core replacement is an easy but intimidating job that a competent D-I-Y'er can do at home. Did one last summer on a 91. With heat (July in Santa Rosa Ca) and lack of ambition, it took us 3 days but could likely be done in 12 hours or so.

Yes, replace the thermostat as preventative maintenance. These things are prone to actually breaking into 2 or more pieces and parts get caught in the impeller.
Bleeding the air out of the system is tricky but becomes much easier if you elevate the nose of the car as high as possible and follow the procedure found on http://www.e31faq.com under

Item #1Do not ever let the car overheat. Very bad (expensive) things can and will happen if you do.

Quite frankly, as I understand it, wiper position is very sensitive. It is for that very reason that I do my best to avoid playing with that area of the DK. Most if not all the issues are on the motor side.
Just my nickels worth.

Here I am Terry!
You coming to Wrenchfest? It was the exhaust valve that was 1mm smaller and in discussions with MWrench he feels that it would make no appreciable difference. However, unless your current heads are damaged, there is no real reason to switch. Plus shipping from Europe (if that is where they are coming from) would be a killer. Just my Canuck nickel's worth.

Same error message here caused by a bad coil.
Suspect weak batteries in your case. -
I rebuild these DK's regularly (I have 6 spares) and ship them to less adventurous owners on an exchange basis. I use white grease (Brand name Lubriplate). Seems to work well and have had no returns or complaints. Ed Raether (MWrench) also provides this same service and uses the same lubricant.
Hope this helps. -

Sean, if you email me (wuffer@shaw.ca) I will send you a copy of the pertinent pages from the repair manual on adjusting the Euro style headlights.
-
The dash knob only compensates 1-1.5 degrees for a full load in the trunk. Proper Euro headlight adjustment is covered quite nicely in the E31 Repair manual. While your adjusters could be broken, it is more likely that defective/worn out headlight absorbers have caused your lights to go out of adjustment and possibly sag or interior bucket damage. I just received a full set of djusters from Gault and installation as previously noted appears like it will be a PITA. A special tool is required to install properly (which I do have). Be very carefull when adjusting or playing with these headlights as replacements are quite spendy.

Bulb is a 1.2W and is either 07 50 9 063 579 or 63 21 7 167 000. I would suspect that either will work just fine. See this link for more info:

Easy actually. Used a generic paint and varnish remeover. Small section at a time applied with a short stiff bristle brush. Do not get the remover on painted or plastic parts. Took about 2 hours to do both sides.

Fuel Filters are located in front of the drivers side rear wheel on LHD North American spec cars.

This is a picture from the Strong-Strut website of the engine in my #1 E31. The intake mainfolds are not painted (except for the red) nor polished. The silver colour is the natural colour and finish of the intakes after removal of the cosmoline.

Hi Sean
Your center console itself has likely broken. The HVAC controller is likely fine. You need #10 in the pic. Not real difficult to R&R.
You also need #19 to fix both your problems correctly.
