I suggest the Gaydon event gets its own pages here on ClubE31.

We need to be able to see the following:-

    1) Dates
    2) A list of people attending, their email address and what part of UK they will be coming from.
    3) A list of recommended hotels
    4) Directions
    5) Are we planning to meet socially on the Saturday ? If so what are we going to do ?

Just an idea - but I agree - this board is not as busy as it has been.

The other option is to see if the 8 Fest site would host a UK page ?

    Just my 2 pence worth

    Ian.

    I totally agree ...

I log on daily but have also come to th eopinion that this forum is almost dead.

I find Roadfly to be far more active !

I want to come to Gaydon - but I haven't seen the registration pages open yet.

    Ian.

I would like more information on steering wheel please.

    1) What BMW is that originally from ?
    2) Do the stereo controls on the MF wheel work ?
    3) How difficult is it to install steering wheel and control wires ?
    4) Will controls work with standard BMW Business Radio / CD ?

    Thanks,
    Ian.

There is a lot of information around on Roadfly in US where BMW covered replacement of MFD with missing / bad pixels.

Failing that - there are several cars being broken in UK at moment who may still have display if you want one.

    VERY NICE INTERIOR

I have some questions for the owner.

    1) What is the storage flap for near the door speaker ? I don't have that on my car.

    2) What steering hweel is that ? Are the stereo controls functional ? Is it a straight swap in plus some stereo leads ?

    3) I love the centre console use of space ? Is that a custom build or out pof another BMW ?

    4) Is that the sunroof control by gearstick ? Mine is on the roof.

    5) I LOVE the Heads Up Display Unit that looks like a datrboard.

I imagine the GPS unit sets the bulleye as the destination :lol::lol:

    Look forward to your reply.

    Thanks,

    Ian.

    Hugh,

I do not know of anyone who has CLEAR lenses.

The "EURO" versions of the E31 had smoked lenses rather than the orange ones.

My 97 Euro 840 has smoked lenses on front and side markers.

I know of a number of US owners who have swapped their orange lenses for smoked Euro parts. As far as I know - these are only available from dealer or used. I have not seen an aftermarket company offering them.

    Ian.

I fill mine up at petrol forecourt.

The local BP station has a high powered water nozzle on same machine as air compressor. This fits nicely and is very quick.

Thanks for the compliments on Alpina wheels.

They are pretty rare - and took me nearly 4 months to track a set down.

A new set with tyres will set you back around £3K - but I got mine for around half that.

They are the deep dish classics with 9J fronts and 10.5J rears.
In my opinion were designed for our cars !

    Cheers,

    Ian

    I got 97 840.

I have 2 white tanks in engine compartment for washer fluid.

The larger of the 2 is for water. It has a hole in centre of the cap- so I don't need to remove cap to fill it up.

The other tank is for the intensive washer fluid and has a red cap.

I also have headlight washers and they fill up via flap on rear bumper (need to open boot to see this)

Someone did tell me once that some in cars - the headlamp washer and main headlamp washer used the same resevoir - and that the front tank filled by filling into the rear flap on bumper. Have you tried that ?

    The BMW Warranties are excellent.

Mine costs me UK£650 per year and covers almost everything including exhaust.

BUT - You can only extend a BMW Warranty - they won't let you buy a new one for a BMW where warranty has expired.

If you are looking for Warranty protection, make sure you buy a car which has current valid BMW Warranty that you can extend.

    Ian

    Just a thought but ..

    Jof,

Here's something to think about !!

Have you seen the 3M clear vinyl - anti chip film that can be applied to protect car against stone chips etc.

I know that my lower nose piece is prettyu chipped from stones.

Now would be a great time to protect yours if you get a new one and get it painted up nicely.

This is a US link - but I have seen the product available in UK (just can't find web link)

    Ian.

    Hi Simon,

    Yeah I'm in Glasgow.

Are you or you freind with the other Velevt Blue car interetsed in the Gaydon meeting near Warwickin August ?

We're going to get an 8 series convoy down from Scotland picking other cars up along the M6 en route.

By the way - the Velvet Blue and Alpinas on the repmobile - classic combo , no wonder the wife loves it. :D

    Cheers,

    Ian.
