I compared the the two an found that the 850 cat has longer pipes coming out og the rear of the cat, otherwise there basicly the same. Befor I come to a conclution I'm gonna have the cats put in by a professional.

Re: catalytic converters
Zitat von wokkeHi all,
I've mainly been a reader of this great forum for a long time and now I have an 850Ci under restoration and need your folks advice:
The exhaust system of this car is completely toast from the catalytic converters onwards. I'm wondering if I could use the E32 converters instead of the E31 ones. I know they have different part numbers but this does not necessarily mean it won't fit or can't be made to fit. Anyone any comment?
Thanks in advanceCheers
WolfI'm going to try to fit E32 cats on my E31 this weekend, I'll let you know if they fit or not.

Sure do Doc.
The e31, 32, 34 (& CSI635 e24) share the same basic components and cases.
The LSD centre from the CSI will slip into the early e31 ring gear (210 mm). Only difference on the CSI is the cooling system and the rear cover may also be different. Early cars have the rubber top mounts in the rear cover and the later cars have the rubbers in the third member/ K memeber/ sub frame.
E36 is a smaller diff and nothing interchanges with its bigger e31,32,34 brothers. They look the same sitting on a bench but dont get caught with that small LSD. They are plentifull and much harder to re sell than the e31
ask me how I found out!
You found out how?
And thanks for the info. -

Have you tryed original BMW NGK High Power?
-
Here's my rear end.
Remus Spot Auspuff. -
According to ETK all 850 and 840 have Servotronic as an option.

Don't use oil additives, the additives in modern olis is enaugh.
-
I use Mobil 1 0w/40, I live here in cold Iceland so I use a thinner oil.
I'm gonna try Castrol 0w/40 next time I change the oil.
Isn't 15w-50 or 10w/60 a little thick for the V12? -
Thanks for the compliments.

Just what I am after, how much was the kit?
Did you have to modify the bulb holders or are they the ones that fit straight in?The kit costs about €525 from Schmedmann, and there is an H1 fitting on the xenon bulb. You can choose from H1 and H7 depending on what type og car.
The hard thing about installing the kit was that I had to remove the headlight frame from the housing to install the bulbs (the xenon bulb is linger than a regular H1 halogen one).
