    Welcome Phil!

I agree with your thoughts on value, however, do be prepared for some moderate expenditure. These babies are addictive and can become spoilt mistresses.

Look at a few before you buy, it's a buyers market.

    Good luck

    That looks lovely!

Better suited to an X5 though possibly.

    That would be fine G.

    Good morning,
remembers me the Honister pass in Lake district some years ago, but only 25%

    Hi
Yes Honister I have no problems with. The pic of my car in the calendar this year is taken on Honister.

can't be much worse than that road between pskov and novgorod, or peterhof towards the svenska on the last "alpina- & 8er baltikum tour 2010"

and looking at you're pictures it's a real nice countryside

I can't say as I have not travelled that road, but if it's worse than Hardknott pass, god help you sir.
It is a beautiful and harsh place at the same time.

I climd'd the dark brow of mighty Helvellyn,
    Lakes and mountains beneath me gleam'd misty and wide;
All was still, save by fits, when the eagle was yelling,
And starting around me the echoes replied.
On the right, Striden-edge round the Red-tarn was bending
And Catchedicam its left verge was defending,
One huge nameless rock in the front was ascending,
When I mark'd the sad spot where the wanderer had died.

    Sir Walter Scott.

    Greetings 8ers,

Places NOT to take the 8?

Here are a few pics from a recent trip to one of my favourite haunts.

I have driven this road many times, but not for a few years, and defiantly not in the 8, until now.
I was pressed for time and thought, how bad can it be?
    I won't be doing it again.:ahhhhh:

I think some members here will be familiar with the area, but for those that aren’t, the pics don't really tell the whole story, as it's impossible to stop and photograph the more extreme parts.

Single track road with 180 degree hairpins where the insides of the bends are nearly 45 degree slopes.
Virtually full lock to make the turn. Wet, and in one place the tarmac was nothing more than loose scree.
Oh, and some big drops a couple of feet from the road!

Umm, well thats ok, I don't have a caravan.

Blessed mother of automatic transmissions and rear wheel drive, don't fail me now.!

One of the few stopping places after the easier part.

The worst part to come, still, what is in view doesn't look too bad.

    Ahh, unharmed.

I purchased mine because I wanted one. Similar sounding car as UKzero. Sub 100k, full SH.

Now Pushing 125k, no dealer/indi history since I have owned it, now done properly by me, a stack of receipts for parts and photo documented evidence of them being fitted.

If I ever do come to sell, and the potential purchaser wants stamps then he is the wrong man for the car. :driver:

As an aside, the latest "unfair" practice to watch out for is being championed by Elephant/Admiral and some other insurers that "support" younger drivers. My son's premium went up by £400 when our neighbour reversed into his parked car. He didn't have to claim as the neighbour's insurers admitted full liability - but his premium still went up.
The ombudsman has confirmed there's nothing we can do. I had wrongly assumed that as the £400 was a direct financial loss due to the accident, the liable party would be, well, liable. Shopping around insurers that would offer cover didn't help as they were more than £400 more expensive.
While my middle age brings ever cheaper insuance, it's not a good time to be 20, male and a driver!

Doe's not surprise me, they are all bandits!

That is like the "protected NCD", yes protected, we still allow you your earned NCD, but we will load you because you were involved in an accident, regardless of fault.

Also watch multi car policies as a claim by one driver can affect the others.

Direct line for one is not on there, they were the ones I went with this year.

Gix. dose BS stand for Bull Ship ?
if yes I will have some BS stamps made. lol

You laugh; people were selling metal plates on ebay with the numbers stamped on them to stick on to the exhaust:harhar:

People voting with their feet could be a factor as G says.

My initial renewal was almost the same price, so I rang another company and got it for a lot less. When I told my original insurers I was leaving they matched my new quote to within 5 quid.
I still swapped companies on principal, as they shouldn't have been greedy and should have quoted me their best price on the renewal.

I picked Sport but how can the MOT station Tell if it has TUV?:banghead::dontknow:

Will it be the same as the current bike test?

There have been different rules over the years. The after market exhaust rule on bikes was that the system had to have a BS number stamped on it, and not be marked "not for road" etc.
There was also a Db level that the system had to be below.

That rule has gone now and it is up to the tester’s discretion. The guide is that the after market system should be as effective as the standard system. So if you have a friendly, hearing impaired tester jobs a gud un!:harhar:
