Maybe I'm late to the party BUT I have just started using Zaino Car Wash/Wax/Finisher and the results are out of this world! Apparently it's a US product that is fully synthetic and totally non-abrasive. I got mine in UK from Rob at http://www.advancedcarproducts.com and will definitely NOT be using anything else! I don't work for Zaino or Rob..../.just wanted to share my experiences with this TREMENDOUS stuff. Once I get my digital cam sorted out, I'll try and post piccies.

My 91 850i had many swirls, slight fades, marks, etc.....Zaino has restored it to absolute glory. It takes a while to "cure" and buff off, but the final spray fluid works some kind of magic on the finish - it's mind-boggling!

According to Zaino and Rob, after 3 or 4 applications, the shine/finish really deepens.........I've managed to get it done twice over the last fortnight (prior to autumn weather setting in), and will aim for a 3rd before Xmas.

    Fuel Gauge

ME TOO!! Every time I drive my 850i, the gauge goes down really quickly!!
In fact, I guess there must be a huge hole in the petrol tank......

Sorry, but it did make ME smile!

    Just a quickie........

Had my '91 850i insured by Tesco's for the past 12 months. They wanted £1100 to renew the policy even though there have been no claims, etc....!!!

Went to Asda (on-line, then phone call), and FOR EXACTLY THE SAME COVERAGE/TERMS, ETC., they asked for £330!!!!

Guess who's pocketing the difference now!!

    It's back!!!!

Just returned with the car from the service guy! He checked everything out, fixed the left side engine prooblem (all the plugs were screwed up with oil, etc from some valve "tappets" or whatever which he also replaced)

He had the car for 4 days, fixed everything so it purrs, AND reset the service clocks and all that for £185! Genius!

He is Karl Brabbs in Leigh, Lancs. Ph: 01942 675 100/07768 886686.

    Hope this helps

    Relocation!

Believe it or not I spent 6 years in USA, 4 years in Hong Kong and 10 years in Singapore - if it was not for the kids education and my job requirements (I am now running Europe for a US Medical Device co.), I would have stayed.

However, the move back did allow us to get into a house vs. rental in Asia AND more importantly, gave me the opportunity to get into an 8!!

I do take your point though, UK now is VERY differe3nt from when I grew up here!

    Take care,

    Simon

    Location

    Hi there!

Thanks for the illuminating comments.....I am based in between Bury and Bolton in Lancashie. I was born around here but lived abroad for almost 20 years before returning last autumn - talk about culture shock!!!

Bought a used X-type 3.0 when I got back then realized what I REALLY wanted was an 8. So, after searching the web for a month or so, found someone in Stockport (dealer) who would do a straight swap! Kept the wife happy (as finances were tight), made me happy and the rest is history.

The problem I had started a couple of weeks ago when the car would not get power until about 20 minutes of driving. Also accompanied with horrible noises and gearbox rattles, etc. Anyway, I think it's now sorted.....apparently the left side of the 12 was essentially shut down due to some valve leakages and all the plugs were "full of sh**". The service guy just called to say it's ready for collection, so I will be down later today to pick it up.

Depending on his charges, I'll post an update on him as he and his crew are all ex-BMW/Williams and were strongly recommended for any BMW service problems.

    Hi there!

Just wanted to post to let you know how much I have appreciated this forum prior to, and since acquiring my '91 850i

To say, I now have the car of my dreams is an understatement! Yes, it's neat watching the petrol gauge needle move as I start down my driveway, BUT what a car!!!

I have a few tech problems (occured within the first month of my ownership!) that are being sorted and then, I'll be back on the road.

The kids hate it (as they can't really fit in the rear seats!) and I have NOT shown the wife how to raise the driver's seat (so she hates it too!!) Both are MAJOR benefits as far as I am concerned!

I MAY just have found a superb ex-BMW tech specialist in NW UK - once I get my car back from him later this week - I'll post my opinion!
