Confirmed,
She's going to need the head off. Any offer over £1500 who can pick it up soon after New Year get in touch.
Already have an offer and will accept if I hear nothing more.

I think 2k will take it realistically.

2.5k? Im still a bit emotional though so that may be rash and haven't had chance to do my research yet on what a spares/repair would fetch on ebay.
Want to confirm with my specialist that it can't be sorted easily first.
What's your thoughts?

Hi 8ers.
Cylinder stopped firing last night. New coil needed. AA man couldn't put sparker back in so I think he's done the threads in.
Waiting for BMW specialist to confirm but he cant work on it until new year.
If it means new engine or taking the block apart to re thread it I think I'll let it go. Anyone want to take it off my hands for spares/repairs?
Only had the MOT done 2 weeks ago so if someone fancies the repair job it could be worth it.
1997 (R) 840 ci Sport. 155k miles. M62 4.4l V8. In Sheffield
Will update when I have more info but get in touch if interested. Wanted to post it here before I stick it on eBay.
Cheers

Thanks mate.
This helped a lot. Think she died last night anyway so I'm in mourning!

Hi 8ers,
I have an issue with my nearside repeater not working. Thought it was just a bulb but have swapped the bulbs over (other side is still working) and it seems it's more than the bulb.
Just failed an MOT and one of the issues was the shock absorber has fluid leak. While swapping the bulbs over I noticed some oily fluid all around the bulb socket and wiring.
I think it's safe to say this has something to do with the repeater dying.
But whether it does or doesn't, it looks like I need a new bit of wiring and a socket. All the fuses seem fine. However, I'm not really sure what the part I need is called. Is it just the wiring, or is "socket" the correct terminology?
Secondly, my fuel pipes are and advisory. Are fuel pipes considered fatal on the e31? I mean, it's been difficult enough trying to find shocks (I've had to go for the non electric ones). So before I spend some more cash, are the fuel pipes the end of the old girl?
Last question, there's a harsh vibration on the back left wheel when I'm accelerating hard in first or second gear. I'm told this is because of the propshaft mounting. Again, not sure of terminology here, I thought it was a called a centering bush. Are these the same thing, do I need both, do I need the centering bearing also?

Thanks Timm, I'd kind of resigned myself to that conclusion. Very interested in the colour of the 8 on your profile. Is that a stock colour from BMW or is it custom?? Any thoughts on plasti dip over the normal paint?
Yes BBMatic, I'm glad I won't be selling this car, would be a nightmare if I was repairing it to sell it!
Duje, I haven't been to Split, will have to come next time! I was in Pula last time, some of your roads are great fun to drive! I only wish I'd have taken the 3 series so I could drive manual!

Hi All,
This is my first post here so please be gentle!
I'm no stranger to BMW's but this is my first 8. It's already been amazing on a long trip to Croatia and back. I've managed to complete the majority of the mechanical work that needed doing. ABS, traction control, brake lines, suspension etc.
It's an 840 ci Sport (4.4), don't have all the chassis numbers etc but I'm not sure it's relevant.
Previous owner has had what I think is a speed bump accident. Instead of replacing the bottom section of the front bumper with an M sport replacement he/she has replaced it with a normal lower bumper section.
Is there anywhere I can get an M sport version other than BMW? (I live near Sheffield and the contacts I have are suggesting going to the body shop to have a custom one made)
Is having a custom one made a good idea and if so are there any other recommended body shops up here? (Don't mind driving somewhere to get it sorted)
Is there an alternative?
Also, on a separate issue, once the bumper is sorted and the spray work completed, I'm planning on having it dipped in a different colour. Does anyone have any experience with dipping and is it a good/bad idea?
The cosmetic bits are the last bits of work I need to complete the car. Very frustrated with bumper issue now as it is holding up the respray.
Help would be appreciated before I lose the rest of my hair.
Cheers
