Hmmm weird...
I just wonder where are those stretched bolts from???
In fact on the upper end of the Mc Pherson Strut (which shows the damage in your pictures) there is NO BOLT at all...
Everything is held together with hex nuts.

You'll need a M32 open-end wrench.
You should not disregard, it is a left handed thread... -
Well... actually I think the more the damping, the less the travel.
And after all you have M-Technic springs! -

I'm wanting the Eibach springs to stop excessive vertical movement, I just feel with the springs on now, there is too much travel
...
Maybe you rather need new shock dampers? -
Eibach springs all around.
Though keep in mind, your 840 could go a little bit lower, because mine has a manual transmission, which carries ca. 50Kg less weight...

Just went to the gerage just for you.
That's how the original chromed end pipes look. Paid this year 63EUR with some discount in Germany.
Easy mounting -
Well said Reinhard, as always...
Except for the upper right picture. It surely shows the lower wishbone No. 1, instead of the upper wishbone No.10 as suggested in your drawingExactly these two balljoints were the only things I had to replace on the rear end... so far...

you will find pictures at www.phoenixmotorsport.co.uk under "billet products"
OK but...... which of them are supposed to be for the E31?
-
Wow! Maybe a stone chip?
-
Did someone have some picture of those plates?
-
Exactly!

I would submit that an OEM spring cut properly would be indistinguishable from stock, except for height of course.
Actually the number of convolutions is recorded in the certificate of conformity of the coils... so the inspector by the MOT just needs to count them -

By cutting the rear 3/4 turn, the spring rate increases and the spring itself becomes stiffer. It fits the same in the perch as an uncut OEM spring.
...
I'm fully aware of this. Nevertheless, it's forbidden over here...
And I'm sure there must be a good reason for. -
I fully agree about the H&R springs... in my opinion the worst choice you can make to your E31.
But actually you really surprise me with the cutting of the OEM springs!
In Europe is it strictly forbidden, your springs lose the type approval, hence your car loses the operating license...Just buy a couple of original BMW M-springs and you're done

However I don't have the stock 3.15 rear diff, Hartge fitted a 3.45 diff on my car along with the cams and the chips.
making it identical to an Alpina 5.0.
...
Aehmmm... sorry to be the bad guy who tells you... but this doesn't make your engine identical to the Alpina B12 5.0
An Alpina most of all has other pistons and revised heads giving her a compression ratio of 9,5... -

840CI February 1995 - hope this helps in some way.
Oh well... in your case it doesn't matter if EU or USA car, in fact that electrical throubleshooting manual is meant to be just for the 850 with the old M70 V12 engine.
As far as I know the error code reading method through the flashing ASC lamp has never been implemented on the V8 motronic... -
Noggie,
I guess your problem isn't a bad quality charger, but a leaking electric... most probably because of the aftermarket gadgets you installed.I drive my car as few as you do (2000km a year) and I full intentionally connect the (full processor controlled) charger just every four week. The batteries would definitely last even a bit longer, but 4 weeks is to me easy to keep in mind
Though notice that my car is full stock!Danilo

They look like the Schnitzer aftermarket mirrors for the 850i.
If you ask me, by far not as nice as the CSi M-Mirrors... -
