My 840 has 137k miles on it with the Nikasil engine as well. Proper care makes all the difference. Had someone who recently purchased a 97 840 with only 32k on it...my ran much smoother, sounded better, and drove considerably much better.

Resale will obviously show a difference in price provided there were a wide open market for these cars for any future buyers, but lets be honest - this car is an emotional buy. A high mileage car that runs well, has good records, and looks good will sell fast to that person who is specifically seeking an 8-series over a lower mileage needs some work, and looks worn vehicle.

    Just one question Larry.

    Is the silver 8 yours?
If so, how are the front lights tinted?, liked the whole light assy in black, not just the turn indicators.

Yes...that silver one is mine. After having replaced the turn signal assemby on each side....twice in 2 years I decided to put a "clearguard" on it. Found out I could get it "smoked" and spent the 10 mins. putting it on. Great effect and I don't have to worry about stray rocks any longer. "canadian8er" (Rob) on http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e31/ sells and ships it when he has the time and materials - pre-cut and ready to apply. I recall the price being about a third of one new assembly.

some one of you have tested these?

I have seen postings on tests between TMS and Dinan, but not on these chips. I have the Wokke chip also. Big difference in lower rpm power after install. No problem on the install - less than 20 mins (with beer at hand) Wokke chips seem to be the overall favorite because of the noticable wake-up you get from your 8.

Quick note to all as a reminder about EuroSunday located at 501 Pavillion Lane Sacramento, CA 95825 this Sunday

This informal event is $0 and will run from 8:00am to 10:30am. Yes...we are expecting another large turnout with quite a diversity despite the Laguna Seca weekend events. Word is getting around and I am receiving phones calls and emails verifying the existence of this event with promises to attend.

We will have a breakfast meet headed up by Mike Ritenour mjritenour@yahoo.com Mike will be having everyone meet @ 6:00am in Folsom (very central for Elk Grove, Roseville, El Dorado Hills folks)...have some breakfast and caravan together to EuroSunday by 8:00am being led by Mike's 911 RS Carrera Tribute. Please contact Mike for location, more info, and an RSVP.

Leaving after EuroSunday is over and cruising for a lunch run is Adam Cook mystdrag@yahoo.com There will be two groups leaving EuroSunday for lunch @ Applebee's in Cameron Park. One will be the spirited group led by Adam's M3 - expect twists and turns on a very round about way to arrive in Cameron Park for lunch. The second group will be the direct route to Cameron Park via Hwy 50...led by Larry's BMW 840ci keeping speed reasonable Our arrivals are going to be at Applebee's 3281 Coach Lane in Cameron Park (530) 677-8677. Please email Adam for more info and your RSVP.

As always...EuroSunday is all euro cars and bikes! Every make, model, and year is invited and welcome. We have consistently had an incredible display of vehicles and hope this event becomes a staple for the Sacramento area. Please join us for coffee and perusal of some fine euro vehicles and pass this around!

Need some help...this is driving me nuts!

My 840 seems to have a mind of its own as to when the interior lights will shut off when locking or starting the car vs. staying on. Most times when it is raining...they will stay on. Drivers side door left open too long...lights stay on. Random times the lights will stay on and simply opening (a very shut door) and reclosing will turn off the lights (passenger and driver side)

If it is the sensors...where are they and how do I get to them? If it is something else, then please give me ideas on how to perform an exorcism on this car.

I just chipped my 840ci last weekend with the chips referenced here. Noticable "seat of the pants" difference! 8-series always seems to be heavy from the start and continually wakes up the faster you go. This chip feels like my car just had a double expresso and is ready to take on the day. Side benefits....better gas mileage, exhaust sounds like it has a little subwoofer hooked up, more hp, and more power. I feel this is an incredible car, but there are upgrades that can be done to tailor it to the driver. I am really enjoying the new feel on my 840ci.
