    Hi all
I'm having major problems still with the dashboard on my car!
Can someone do me a gigantic favour?
I would like to know the start and end sequence for the clocks. At what stage does the mileage show on the dashboard?
    1. Is it on all the time?
    2. Does it show when you unlock the car
    3. Does it show when you open the car
Or 4. Does it show when you start the ignition
    And then in reveres order
    1. Does it go off when you turn the ignition off?
    2. When you lock the doors
    3. Does it go off after a set amount of time after the car is locked?

We have run out of ideas on how to fix the clocks and nothing is making sense with them. The voltages are all over the place up and down and they switch on and off for a few seconds all the time, when they are working.
But once they go off and stay off, I cant get them to come back on till the batteries have gone flat, the car is jumped started and the clocks are connected when the engine running.
After that anything can happen. Sometimes they will turn off when the doors are shut, other times when the ignition is turned off, and others they will keep working fine no matter what for about 10 mins then they go off and stay off.
During this time the voltages to the clocks are altering from anything from 1.5 to 7.5.
We now believe that it maybe the board computer module that’s playing up, but if anyone else has any ideas it would be very much appreciated

    Many thanks

    Hello Everyone

I’m really hoping someone on here can help me with a real problem I have got, and that the answer will be quick and easy.

My problem is the 4 gauges on my dashboard have stopped working!!! I have no fuel, speed, reves or temperature gauges on my car at all!!!

My car is a 93 850ci manual. I have borrowed a set of clocks from an 840 and attached them. I have all the lights working for everything, from back lights to indicators, but still no gauges. When I plug my gauges back in, I do not have all the lights showing, even when I swap over bulbs.

The problem has accrued once or twice a few weeks back, but once the ignition was turned of and back on, everything continued to work.

The clocks stopped working when the engine was ruining but the car was stationary.
The car its sell has just been fitted with a vortec supercharger and I am wondering if this has caused any of this problem, but yet it was running fine with during testing.

Also with the new clocks fitted in the mileage section I have no figures displayed and in the other section (the one you can reset) I have 4 E displayed. When I push the reset button 4 zeros appear but only whilst I am holding the button in and the E’s appear once the button is released.

I have checked the power to the back of the gauges which seems to be fine, but I am unable to check the power after the gauge as I’ve no idea where the wires go

Is anyone here able to help as I am really stuck and this seems to be the last thing that can go wrong with my car before I can get it back on the road after a year. And as I’m sure you will all feel the same, a year away from your car is just too long!!!!!

    Many Thanks
    Heinrich

Well spotted Mat. When the car went in for body work, they cracked the windscreen, enough for it 2 fail the MOT.
I got the guy doing the engine to fit me a new windscreen, but unfortunately didn’t adjust the wipers correctly and they were left sticking slightly up, which is not good when you are doing 150+ as they tend to creep up the windscreen. However this is not a major problem and 1 that will be sorted before I get it back

    Well
Here they are then. The collection of pics of my car. From the original condition, right through from having the body kit added and a re-spray, to having a new engine, racing round Europe back to having the engine out and a new super charger added. And unfortunately that’s as far as its got at the mo. There just seems to be new problem every day that delays the progress of the car, but hopefully within in a month or 2, I might just get it back in road worth condition!!!!

I will do my best. I hope to upload the only pic of the "old engine" i have over the weekend but i'll try and get a pic of it in the condidtion it is now.
And getting two F1 people to work on your car is not a question of money, but of who you know!! :P
    Will report back soon.......
    Heinrich

Sorry for the delay in the reply guys. Had problems logging back on to the site.
    Answers to your question are.
It’s a ysi vortech super charger capable of 1100bhp (I think)
    It’s an 850ci Manual made in 93
And yes I did have 2 blokes working on it from the maclarans F1 team. Only for 1day though. Everything else is very much a proto type. Hence the amount of time it’s taking to rebuild (and get it right this time)
Also as little added note, I found out 1 of the reasons why the engine got a little hot. When I was doing 160+ on the way home I’d already blown a head gasket and lost half the engine :(
I have now been told it will be back on the road by the end of this month. SO hopefully more accurate details and figures to come soon!!!

    Hi all
It’s been along time since I last left a post on here (sun 31st April).
And I have noticed that the post has had a lot of comments left from other peoples about their experiences with superchargers
Well caring on form where I left off. I left oxford at 8.30pm Sunday and headed straight for Vienna. It was currently set up at 380bhp with some fancy Australian super charger fitted funning about 8 psi boost.
The car ran like a dream all the way through south England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands & on the German autobahns. This is where I managed to catch up and over take a few of the cars on the gumball, including a few lambos and a Ferrari Enzo!
I also engaged a new m3 in Belgium but soon lost it when I reached 130mph. But this was not the top speed I reached. Coming home through France I reached 160 (gps verified) but due to slight probs I didn’t push it any more despite having at least another 10mph left in her.
However when I reached Vienna the thermostat failed on the car and it overheated. Not a massive problem, but the car wasn’t the same afterwards and was constantly over heating. Nevertheless I did manage to coacher her back home, only for her to fail completely just out side of Norwich, Norfolk.
The thermostat had stuck shut and the engine over heated completely warping all the heads, splitting the silicon hosing and wrecking the supercharger.
So for the past 8 months the car has been in for a total over hall, a new engine & a vortech supercharger which should be arriving in a few days from the states.
So full update of stats, pics and any other questions you could have will soon be answered.
But approx bhp will be 550 for everyday use but can be tweaked to 600-800 if the urge takes me

    Hello all
I was just wondering if anyone here has or knows anyone that has fitted a supercharger to their 8 series. Or am i the only one daft enough to have one fitted to his 850!!!!!!
For anyone that woud like to know what its like to drive i will let you know once i have arrived back from driving it around europe, along with attempting to follow the gumballers for a 1000 miles across europe!!!!!!
(not looking gd at the mo as i'm still sitting in the garage wait for the car to come back!!! sunday night at 6.30!!)

    Up date
The man seeling the unit on ebay will repair old units from around 70 euros. He is busy at the moment repairing units, but he has asked me to contact him during feb to get the display fixed. If anyone else needs there unit fixed for any reason jsut let me know and i can pass his e-mail on to you
    Thanks to everyone who helped
    Heinrich

    Hi Paul
You could very well be a life saver. Now the only problem is finding someone that speeks good enough german to tell me what the hell i am buying, but i'm not going t let little things like that stop me getting my car back to a1 condition
    Thanks agian

Well I went to see a specialist today that deals with bmw and he has assured me that I do need a new unit as it cannot be fixed by someone with a soldering iron. I would live with it if it wasn’t the fact that 2/3rds have gone the entire way across so I can only see the top and the bottom, unless I look very closely as they are very faint....Only hope now is the German e-Bayer....But what is it that I am actually looking for?

The think that "interests" me is. If i dont use the car or the compture for a long time, when i do re-use it some of the lights come back on. My car had been in storage for 6month over the summer. When i started it up 90%+ of the lights came back on, but with in a day or to most of them had gone back out again.
So maybe it is just a little wiring problem
    (fingers crossed)

    Hello all
Now I am hoping I am not the only one here with this problem. I also hope someone has found an easy solution to this problem. The little computer display in the dashboard, that tells you everything that is going on (or more usual than not, what’s wrong) with your car, which is made up of several little red squares. Now every time I seem to turn my car on, another little square has seemed to have gone out. At the moment I have a complete blank line of about 3 or 4 squares high the entire way across the display, meaning I only get the top and bottom of the words, and therefore have to guess at the problem!
When I went to BMW to get it sorted, they said I need a new computer at a cost of £500 as they didn’t sell the display separately.
Now does anyone know anyone/where that I can get just the display changed/fixed? As I’m certainly not going to payout £500 to get it fixed, but next time I would like to know when the ABS is going to fail on me
    Thanks
    Heinrich

Just to add my two penith. I had a snooper fitted to my car about 12months ago, when they were still fairly expensive. I paid out £300 for the camera and laser one. And even at £300 I think it was well worth it, because without it I would probably have a six months ban and over a £1000 in speeding fines. Not that I drive fast, but my 850 just doesn’t seem to be able to curse at 70. Any one else have this problem!

I knew I would rile someone with the wing mirror remark. I don’t know why I don’t like the csi mirrors, but personally they do nothing for me, and the general style seems to be coming common place on all types of cars, right from bmw 3series down to citrons. And personally I do not want mirrors on my8series that are on a Citron. I am looking at getting some ones in the shape/style of the new merc mirrors possible including the indicator light in with it, then having the side indicator on the car either removed or replaced with a fin/grill look like on the z8 or something.
Anyone got any ideas on that?
Hopefully she should be finished and back on the road early next year, if I can afford it!!
