Attaboy!
You´ll need another project after that...maybe in the meantime bring the black garage queen to the same standard?
What is your hours count this winter?
We´re at roughly 600 man hrs for the "Prince" and not even near the looks of your car.
Rubbing a cat has an entirely different meaning over here

The bracket can be seen in Gerry´s pictorial of the headlamp R&R way above.
and here is how it needs to be fitted:
and secured:
I assume that the bracket is in theory available but one of the parts missing from the parts catalogue. I can only see the entire supporting plate 1970565/566 in the parts catalogue which might indicate that the bracket is part of this assy.
You´ll need to get a used bracket or make a practically useful clone thereof yourself - does not look that complicated.

"The air boxes are not connected to each other"... is what I wanted to write but remembered that the opposite is the case. From that point of view it actually makes (some) sense that the end of the unused air box is capped in the V8.
The connections are shown in the diagram and picture below:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/29453/ 8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/29454/
It is entirely likely that the air box is broken in two parts itself (happens rather easily once the chin hits the ground...) hence all sealing attempts may be in vain but if you wanted to give it a try I´d take wide sticky tape and wrap the cutout and hole or buy a new rubber cap 1702111 - roughly 30 EUR - for the hole.
The only "bad thing" happening if left open is that engine compartment air is being used e.g. air intake temperature will be higher and hence power slightly down. Same as with any run of the mill open K&N filter.
Reinhard
The air duct is normally capped off. It is without practical use in the V8, installed only so they did not need to re-design the entire bumpers
Why it is cut is beyond me - normally the headlamp pod does not interfere.
The big air collector is part of the front mask/bumper assy and sits in there snugly without any place to go. Probably the bumper was pushed upwards back then and the air duct broke / was cut which they remedied by cutting more which is sometimes useful to stop a crack from propagating. Don´t worry about this part too much - it is cosmetic only.
Cheers
Reinhard
Yup. This box holds a 10p resistor with the same function set of a broken air intake temp sensor
It is worth a little but only if you need the specific resistor for something else
"Chip" is rather far fetched but maybe they now sell resistors in FPGA packages to make it look more complicated
"Chip tuning" for the M62 is entirely possible by downloading the desired set of ignition/fuel data into the DME. The M62 has a flashable Siemens 5.2.(1) DME same as the E38 pre TU.
Pretty sure there are specialists of non-Polish origin in the UK offering such services. Also pretty sure that you will love the result only find no place to test the removed speed limiter

Thanks for sharing.
The car depicted is CC41868 - an extremely well kept specimen for the region.
I wonder whether the parking permit in mine is still valid today?

I heard some rumours by a friend of a friend´s cousin that your rumours are written in very thin ink
There was a rumour from inside BMW that all 18 found their way to the road as 840´s after an engine swap.
Here some "facts" as I can see them from the build statistics: none of the 830´s has a (different VIN) twin in the 840´s. Period.
Hence: the likelihood to see an 840 which started its life as an 830 is beyond statistic probabilities.
Now... the hidden stash of BMW secrets... check it out here: secret BMW depot. This garage is not as secret as they make you believe during that video but rather accessible by way of BMW Classic. There seems to be an inner sanctum where the most valued possessions are in controlled climate storage but I assume you won´t find the stillborn 830´s there.
The likelihood they all went to execution in the BMW recycling facility Lohhof from my point of view is 100%
As one can see the company is not shy to discard items of seemingly much higher value than a measly 830.
As it is: no one (I know of) has ever reported of an 830 sighting which makes it a little different from the M8 that allegedly was "scrapped long ago", "hidden behind piles of crates", "loosely assembled" and whatever the internet lore reported until 2010 BMWCar came up with the sensational report of that well kept and near professionally finished (meant to be) racing 8.
Here´s another rumour... some say... the Stig is hiding away one of the manual 830´s in his underground dungeon but has yet to master the 218 HP of that fire breathing lame duck

Well done but a lot of work for as little as two lights a day
We´ve done this fairly often in the past and always found it maybe a little over the top for the purpose. Others achieved the same, as you write, by as little as soldering two patches together. Nevertheless this type of Swiss engineering is as good and as OEM as it gets.
We have yet to see the ex-factory solution employed in cars for the Scandinavian countries where daytime running light was compulsory from as early as the 80´s but there aren´t many cars with this country designation and they maybe never had this feature anyway.
Did you check whether the cable from the engine compartment is routed into the original place namely the passenger side (RHD) footwell under the carpet? We always found this a reasonably practical solution as it saved us the extra chores of laying a cable like you had to.
I am not sure whether this DRL module is still available ex-Switzerland so the write-up was possibly only academical but nevertheless: thanks!
Cheers
Reinhard (needs to do this in a RHD some time in the future...)
High CO may be attributable to "sports cats". Normally 200 cell cats are a close call, those below e.g. 100 cells will not pass our local emissions.
Deteriorated rubber caps - see Timm´s site will get you into unmetered air trouble easily.
Was the MAF you bought OEM or just one you found on Ebay looking the same? In case it is a say, Chinese, knock off, you can expect everything bad under the sun in terms of emissions since the values delivered by the MAF will only confuse the DME.
Aged oxygen sensors (slowing down) will also lead to bad CO/HC values but you´d normally see this in fuel consumption values.
Intake manifold has not been on the list of usual suspects for M60/M62 but if someone has tinkered with it already it may be worth a second thought.
Go for the cheap bits first: crumbling rubber....
Good luck tracking this down!
Reinhard
Terje (huldra66) spoke to the new owner of #22 when it changed ownership in April 2012 and was quoted "more than 14k EUR" (original invoice in hand). The conversion was done in 2003. It is safe to assume that today´s charges will easily exceed those of more than a decade ago.
Cheers
Reinhard
The silver car mentioned by mcat911 is CC88023 and there is no doubt that CSi mufflers cost a ton per side whereas 3rd party or even used M70 rear boxes go for a lot less.
They were already in place in 2007 when the car changed ownership presumably to the current seller:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/29137/
Without being explained it definitely is worth a question why the intake runners are silver/blue instead of black/silver but over time personal preferences introduce changes
2007 vs 2015

I do not see why the dials ought to be those of a standard 850 - to me they are typical S70 dials.

Good thing you have the car back and driving. If you´re on a crossroads where do you think it will lead you - anything better than the 8 in plain sight overlooked by us others or just tired of canary yellow?
