I'm in with the "tick over at cruise speed" lovers on this one :)

But yes, we are owners, not custodians, so we can do what we like.
It doesn't matter if others have different views, as I don't think we're trying to evangelise on this forum :mrgreen-angel:

It's kind of sobering to realise that my car at 114000 miles is deemed undesirable and worth so little.
I know this to be true, but if I consider its immaculate interior, rust free exterior which is at least as good as several vehicles I've seen at half the mileage.....
Then I suppose I should think about the suspension of my high mileage car.
All new bushes and links front and rear, rebuilt EDC shocks all round, etc, etc - all within the last 5000 miles......
Ah, but the engine and box won't last as long. Ok a full gearbox recondition and install is £2250, and second hand low miles M62 engines can be sourced and fitted relatively easily......
However, the draw of low miles is a strong as ever.
The worst car I looked at before buying mine had the lowest mileage and had an asking price double that of the one I bought.
So if despite all this my car is worth so little what do I do?
Easy - keep it and enjoy it :)

Many thanks for the pics and info ukzero, that's helpful. I'm debating whether to go for your interior as Bavaria intended, or a darker grey/near black on the seat bolsters, to create more of a contrast with the surrounding plastic areas (unless that was a factory option too?).

    No problem.
It's all a matter of taste and I know my rear spoiler and raised diffuser aren't everyone's idea of good taste ;)
My car has the lighter headlining and the lighter colours help with the light and airy feeling in the cabin which I like.
What I would say is that any seat colour scheme (in my opinion) should look as though it belongs in the car and "flows" with the other trim - even if it's a contrast colour. I guess what I'm saying is, it shouldn't prompt an observer to notice it's been altered.

    Danke/thanks

Could anyone point me to some good pics of a silver grey two-tone interior?

Not a brilliant picture, but already online so easy to bring up - but clearly shows which bits are light grey/dark grey.
Don't know what it's like on the "normal" cars, but the light grey section of the door card is surrounded by darker grey leather to match the effect on the seats.
The headrests have light centres and darker sides and the rear seats are similar.

    Looks excellent. Congratulations.

Personally, a silver car with a two tone interior poses me no problems (which is why I bought one :harhar:).

I guess the louvres are in the correct place as defined by Alpina, but has anyone considered putting them slightly further back?

    Looking fantastic Steve :)

Ahhh - brought it all back to me - the white primer/filler, the naked front and rear, the pile of body parts waiting to be sprayed (seeing the nose cone dismantled was especially scary!).....

I didn't dare alter the colour - but when it comes to mods you are THE owner who has no fear :grin2:

As far as I know, the only two mainstream insurers not on the comparison websites are Aviva and Direct Line.
Specialist insurers and individual underwriters aren't there either, but that's no surprise.

As an aside, the latest "unfair" practice to watch out for is being championed by Elephant/Admiral and some other insurers that "support" younger drivers. My son's premium went up by £400 when our neighbour reversed into his parked car. He didn't have to claim as the neighbour's insurers admitted full liability - but his premium still went up.
The ombudsman has confirmed there's nothing we can do. I had wrongly assumed that as the £400 was a direct financial loss due to the accident, the liable party would be, well, liable. Shopping around insurers that would offer cover didn't help as they were more than £400 more expensive.
While my middle age brings ever cheaper insuance, it's not a good time to be 20, male and a driver!

    Hi chaps.
If my car is at low revs when driving, idling or sat with the ignition on, there is a regular click/clunk from the area of the aux water/heater pump (next to fuse box in engine bay). Frequency is about 3 seconds.
I haven't noticed this before so am wondering if it's new, normal or a sign of impending component failure.
I am aware of posts about the aux pump, but don't yet know if it requires further investigation or turning on the radio!
    Any words of wisdom?

PS When I turn off the ignition, the same area makes a series of four or five "groans" before falling silent.
Perhaps I just need to get out more....

I had an e36 M3 evo (same engine as the Z3M) before my 8. I found the engine tiresome after a while, it made me drive like a tw*t, I didn't seem to have any choice in the matter. I ended up glad to see it go before the evil machine killed me. Great fun for a while but I fear your "quick thrill" worry may be right. Having said that I can't help looking at the e61 m5 to replace my wife's dull-as A3. I suspect that is also in league with the Reaper.

Bottom line, keep the 8 and live.

I know exactly what you mean.
When I drive the 8 (especially with the EDC set to comfort) it encourages me to glide effortlessly along with zero drama. If I want to have a bit more fun, setting the EDC to sport and using the tiptronic allows this - to a limited degree when compared to modern pocket rockets I accept.
Driving (although not for long) the Z3 M Coupe was huge fun, but it very much demands to be driven hard and fast.
I still plan to buy one to get it out of my system, but my 8 will probably stay - it's value to me is way above the very low money they sell for.

I cannot really imagine what a pixie head-butting a cracked coconut sounds like, but I don't find mine sounding "weird". Changing the flasher relay will not change the ticking sound in the interior because this sound does not come from the flasher relay but an acoustic relay inside the instrument cluster.

Is the acoustic relay anything special - or could it be swapped for a small sounder?

My flasher relay sounds like a pixie head-butting a cracked coconut :dontknow:
Offends my ears every time I indicate.

Is this normal? So if I bought a new one, would it sound any different?
Is there an "artificial sound" electronic alternative?

It's the little things that really annoy ;)
