In my opinion the key (for whatever color) are the polished rims.
Having the rims in standard silver paint makes the colored stars looking somewhat dull.
A word of warning though: polished rims are a nightmare to keep shiny... :banghead:
I opted for no clear coat on the rims as I never saw a polished and painted wheel without more or less cracked clear coat.
Brake dust gathers under the tips of the stars and if it's left there it will create tiny, black dents.
I tried different waxes (Liquid Glass was one of them) but none was really satisfactory.
Now I'm using Autosol Metal Polish to keep the rims shiny.

Terje, if you send me an image with your car, with the silver stars I can try to color the stars in Photoshop.

    Looks cool! :top:
(Although on the Picture it looks as if BMW have mounted the Stars on the wrong side... :))

I have an Oxford green 840 with the Styling 21 wheels and I painted the stars also in body color.
In my Opinion it looks really nice, especially that I have polished rims. When the sun shines, there is a lot of "bling"...

    Frohes Neues Jahr liebe Freunde!

Some years ago I had a problem with my passenger side window.
Sometimes it just dropped suddenly while driving. Other times it did not lowered when I grabbed the handle.
First i suspected the micro switches but I had to rule them out as they were in perfect order.
Then I replaced the door module (the unit controlling the door functions) and all problems were sold.
I would take a look at that. It sits on the front lower part of the door.
Unfortunately driver and passenger modules are not the same.
I used a used one from a salvage car.

As I ordered my ones 3 or 4 years ago, there was 2 left sided available. After ordering them, they disappeared from the system and became no longer available. :motz:
The only solution was for me to buy 4 E34 M System Wheels on Ebay and use the throwing stars from them.
The E34 wheel itself does not fit the E31 but the stars are the same. They are also more common than the E31 version.

Hart to tell without inspecting the gearbox itself. If the engine got hit then the case of the box might been damaged and might also transferred some load through the crankshaft to the inside of the box. I guess the torque converter would pick up most of the damage in that case, so you could still use the clutch assembly behind.

The 8 series is a bloody well made car... no damage to the windscreen although the front is gone. :top:

As you are standing on a hill, the gearbox in 4th might not have enough torque in idle to keep the car from rolling backwards.
So place a brick or a proper wedge behind the rear wheels before you attempt to drive out of the parking place.
(As you noted that there is not much space behind the car, this way you can avoid to suddenly roll backwards.)

    A couple of years ago I was at ZF with my 540 E34 (5HP30) and my 97 840Ci (5HP24).
The 8 had roughly 100 tkm on the clock, the 5 more than 200.
The guy said that the 5 did not needed the service, was still okay (although I drove it hard).
The 8 he said: it was time! The oil was more murky and more stuff on the magnet.
Unfortunately the M62 gearbox is just on the torque limit of the engine as opposed to the M60 gearbox which is the same as in the M70 with over a 100 Nm as reserve.

I don't know how many hours needed to replace the gearbox, but I guess it can be done in a day.
These are steps I can think of: exhaust down, remove drive shaft, disconnect gearbox cooling and gear selector inside the cabin, disconnect gearbox from engine. Then the steps in the opposite direction, plus filling up the gearbox properly (at the right temperature).

I guess Wokke can give much more precise infos about this.

You should have a tow hook in your Tool compartment. This can be screwed in somewhere in the front of the car. Don't know the exact location as I never used it.
Then turn the wheels outward and pull the car out on to the street. Then reposition the tow truck and pull straight on.
Without the hook, will be difficult as all the plastic parts are lower then a suitable point on a frame under the car.
I guess the hook is standardized if you don't have one.
    Good luck!

Two weeks ago I had the same question...
As I found one company in Germany (LINK) which seemingly sells these here.
I phoned them but the owner of the shop told me that this offer should not be online as these Cats are not legal here. (Haben kein TÜV mangels zu geringe Verkaufszahlen).
He told me that the quality is Okay. Not OEM but the price is a lot less than OEM so it might be a good trade off.
I suppose it doesn't matter if it has Tüv or not. If it passes the ASU... who cares...

    Cheers,
    Steve
