    Hi there Steve

    I replaced both batteries
    Put the key in
    Turned

    Ziiiip
    Then guess what ???
Something said to me -- try the other key

    I did and

    BINGO !!!!

Those dam a---holes stuffed up one of the keys
One of the things I asked them to do for me was to replace both key batteries because it looked too complicated by the book so
They must have screed that up tooo

Anyhow thanks a ton for your help
The Club should put you on their payroll as an advisor

    Next step

The cats and a new exhaust

    Does it ever end ???
They say yachting is a nver ending pit of money !!

    Cheers mate

    ps
where do you stay by the way

    Hi Steve
My knowledge does not extend no where near as yours with regard these cars but
I somehow dont think its my starter
The guy that was looking ater my car in Germany said the one battery was dead and replaced it
Im wondering now if the one on the other side is perhaps also dead (I have not checked the battery water and they are bone dry) if it would not have something to do with it
This afternoon I disconnected both batteries briefly then connected up again and--nothing
Then I disconnected both and left them off for about 2 hours then connected up and, bingo it started
I went for a drive came back switched off and 10 mins later it would not start again
I am going to go and buy a new battery for the other side tomorrow and if the problem still persists
Do you know of a good Auto Elect that can work on BM's otherwise I must take it to the agents as I think it definetly has something to do with the immobilser

    Immobiliser Problems again

    Hi there Steve
Ive just brought the 840 back from Germany
Went well with the new diff
    But now-----
The f--------g thing just wont start at all
Ive tried disconnecting the batteries (my old theory) and rebooting the computor which used to work but now
    Nothing !!Zip!!! Zulch!!!
All the electrics come on but the bitch will just not start
I dont know where to go from here

Im getting really pissed off with this now

Do you think its possible to just remove the immobilser altogether
If they steal it -- well-- so be it
I dont want to tow it in to BM otherwise I may as well jusyt go buy another one

    Jeff

    Hi Steve
    Thanks for that
A dam side cheaper than £175-00
    By the way--guess what
I went to fetch the car from Germany
On my way home on the autobahn, the diff popped

To cut a short story long!!!!

They forgot to put oil in the diff
I am getting a new diff but what a pain in the butt getting it transported back

I spoke to the mechanic over there regarding the Cats
He said that if we remove them the car wont have enough back presuure and will overheat!!!!!

Im sure he may be right about the back pressure but that can surely be replaced by another box to compemsate (ie; inbetween MOT's)

    How's your central locking behaving

    Jeff

    Greetings all you immobilser victims

I suggest you do as I did
Disconnect the batteries all together and leave for a while
Then reconnect--make sure they are in good condition and full charged first

That should sort the immobilser problems out

    As for locking and unlocking
It sounds like you or they have not programmed the computor correctly when you changed the batteries on the keys

I heard a story from someone that if the keys are not programmed right you will have the problem you are having locking and unlocking

    Best of luck

Im off to Germant tomorrow to fetch mine

    Hope all is now ok

    One last question

Any idea where I can get a rear spoiler with a brake light on ??

    BM 840ci

    Hi there
Just a bit of feed back on the old Immobiliser problem we spoke about a few months ago

I have just got back from Germany and having the car serviced over there

    The starting problem has gone

As one of you said-- It is the batteries

They disconnected and reconnected the batteries and

    BINGO----problem solved

    Ths for all your input

    Cats replacement

    Hi Steve

I live in Kingston on Thames
I took the car to Germany because when I took it to the local BM guys their knowledge about the few problems really scared me
So I have a friend in Dusseldorf who has a BM dealer close by
They were so helpful and so delited to work on an OLD Bm
I had various other technical probs that they attended to
Total full service with changing all fluids, brakes, something to do with cylinder head bolts etc etc etc
    Total cost E1500-00
Which I think was not bad as they wanted £900 here just for the service
They said the cats should be replaced and if not the car may overheat
    Is this so ?????
I would very much like to find out how to do as the guy you mentioned
Take them off and just refit when MOPT comes round
Any chance I can get hold of him

    By the way
Do you remember I had a problem with the immobilser taking 19 min to kick in every time I stopped
Well, I got that sorted out
    Ths for your help mate

    Jeff

I have recently taken my 840 to Germany for a major service and they have come up wwith a mile long list of "To Do's"
Amoung others they say I need to replace both catalysers on the exhaust
    The price seems very steep

Is it neccessary to have these things and, if so, is there not a cheaper way of replacing them
Their price to replace both comes to £3500-00

    Any advice will be appreciated
Can I not do away with them or will it affect the motor

    Jeff

    Hi there Steve & Ben
Sorry I have been away for a while
    Ths for your input
Shit, I'm so pleased I'm not the only one with this problem

Your experience of getting rid of the thing by replacing the batteries--That makes sense
I have also been thinking that it could be like just any other dam computor and just needs rebooting maybe IE; disconnecting the batteries

Only problem, I'm shit scared to do that in case I need a helicopter pilots liscence to reset everything again when the new batteries go in

    Regards locking the car manually
I dont think that will work because I dont even lock the thing
I just turn the ignition off and even leave the keys in

Yesterday I tried just turning the key off one click ie; turn the engine off but leave the ignition on
It worked once but then the next time (at the Petol station again) it made an idiot of me again

Is it a big mission to disconnect he batteries and reconnect again

    Ths again for the input

Just a last thought-- It wouldnt perhaps have anything to do with all the electronics at the service station nowadays

    Jeff

I have a very strange occurance with my car
If I stop at a petrol forecourt or outside a shop to just nip in and buy something and then try and strat the car it is just dead

I have to wait for about 10 minutes then she starts again

This is becoming very embarressing especially on a petrol station forecourt

I have read the book cover to cover and dont find what it is I am doing wrong

Can anyone out there shed some light on this please

    Jeff
