    Hi guys,
After leaving my car standing for 3 weeks, i started it up to deliver it to the bodyshop for some paint on the frint bumper, before i even left the garage the traction light came on. Seeing that 3 1/2 years ago i had a new abs pump put on the car by a stealer due to the fault "ABS return Pump", i wasnt too concerned thinking it must just be the wheel sensor from being left standing. It went to a specialist who told me the pump was faulty and to take it back to the dealer demanding they replace it, cos the same "ABS return pump" fault showed up. Now, as we all know, nothing is starightforward at the dealer...and in summary i've been charged £450 to be told that its not a warranty claim because there is a wiring fault which stopped power to the control module, which in turn kept the pump continuously running and has burnt it out...new module and pump needed...£1700 parts alone. Needless to say i'm picking it up off them on monday. What was strange was when the specialist cleared the fault, the lights stayed off for the journey home, then i tentatively tested the traction on some grass twice and it all worked fine, the light flickered, then went out. Then a couple of hours later i started the car to put it back in the garage, and the lights were on again.
Can anyone shed any light on this, because paying out for a module and pump, as well as to check the wiring is just crazy money!
Any help would be mch appreciated!:dontknow:

I have a '97 4.4 auto, which went into 'trans fail safe'. A local independent specialist found it to be the throttle potentiometers, of which apparently there are 2. He charged me £45 each for them and about £120 labour. It sorted the problem immediately...

    Hi all,
Recently ive been getting a low washer fluid message on the display, yet when i go to fill it, the water just overflows from the filler neck in the bootlip. Ive taken the spare out and found that if i remove the plug on the top of the container that has a pipe running down the side of it, i can fill it no probs, so im thinking there is an airlock that shouldnt be there, cos as soon as i replace it, the water wont fill again. On filling it to the brim, i still cant get water to the front reservoir, although it is pumping from the boot. The cap on the front bottle is fixed, so i managed to fill it some way through the breather in the top to maybe prime it. It squirted the water out from the bottle, then stopped again. Again the rear pump tries to pump, but nothing comes through...any ideas??

hi, I had a trans fail safe error on my 840. It was the throttle potentiometers. Basically the gearbox didnt know where the throttle pedal was and how much throttle was being applied, so it shut down. There are 2 of them apparently, and it cost me £200 to have them both replaced.

Hi, not sure if this is too late for you, but i have an 840, and had the trans fail safe message. It was the throttle potentiometers, which apparently there are 2 of, and they tell the engine what position the throttle is in...if these fail, the engine doesnt know how fast its supposed to be going, and it all goes wrong! Mine was surging and cutting out, and wouldn't get out of 3rd gear. Hope this helps!

Hi guys, its been a while since i've been on here, mainly because the car has actually been behaving itself! As it is now, i've just found i have a snapped rear spring! Mine has the edc shocks, and i was wondering if anyone has changed a spring, and is it particularly difficult? Another problem that has started is that the passenger mirror's tilt control seems to have mysteriously reversed itself...hence when i select reverse, the mirror tilts upwards to the sky, and to bring it back down, i have to push the knob up??? Yet the drivers mirror works as it should! Help!!

    Hi,
I'm possibly looking to sell my 840ci sport, and from the description of the one you looked at, it is a world apart from that one! How much was it advertised for, because trying to value them is quite hard due to the different specs. I'm looking for around 9k for mine, but open to serious offers.:)

    Thanks Jud!
Well, it's a 1997 Individual Sport with 82k miles. As you can see it has the throwing star alloys, and a whole host of extras which I have a list of and can provide if wanted. It also has a performance exhaust custom with a lifetime guarantee built by Longlife of Cardiff 18 months ago at a cost of £1400, which included different tailpipes and sports cats-the sound now being remeniscent of an Aston! It really is incredible, although it can be muffled down by Longlife if needed. The only downside to the car is that the air con doesn't work as it needs a new compressor, which i've been quoted around £800 for. For that reason, I'm looking for around 9k for the car, which I have owned for 3 1/2 years now.

    Hi guys,
It's been a long time since I've visited the site, and the time has come for me to maybe sell the 8er. I'm now yearning for a 2 seater convertible, something along the lines of a VX220...no taking the mick please!! I did have some pics of the car on the site, but I can't seem to find them now. Just wondering if anyone would be interested in it, or knows of anyone that is looking for an 8 series in possibly the best colour combination-estoril blue, grey leather with blue piping! :harhar:

Throttle potentiometers?? Anyway, thats what has come up 1st! Apparently nothing knows how fast it's supposed to be going so the traction is confused as is the gearbox and throttle, so it all kind of just shuts down! This in itself wouldn't be too bad as they are £45 each. once they're replaced though, I'd put money on there being some other, bigger problem...thats just the way it goes!

I have followed all the advice given, just changed both batteries, and hey presto...still running rough and coming up with the same warning! Is there any kind of reset, or is it a case of now taking it to the specialist, as i have no faith whatsoever in stealers?? Many thanks for all the help though, just wish it could've been a simple fix!!!!

Have had the batteries charged. 1was charged overnight, the oher didn't take any charge, so i assume tht one was full. On reconnecting them and taking it for a drive, it lasted half a mile, driving rough before the warning came back. Since disconnecting the batteries though, the drivers window no longer drops down when you open the door. The window works fine on the switch, and the passenger door is fine. Any ideas?? :?:?

Got this message along with traction light! The car is now in limp mode, and is running very rough! Any help would be appreciated, could it be a reset by disconnecting the batteries??? :(

    Hi NetworkLabs,

What kind of price are you looking for for the Alpinas? In my opinion they are the best wheels for the 8, and i'm getting bored of my throwing star alloys!!

Over the last few months the passenger side window seal has begun to crack and tear, right where the top corner of the rear window and passenger door window meet. The front wondow is ok, but the rear one caught in the tear of the seal and ripped it even more the other day, ruining my superglue handy work! A call to the dealer found the seal to be £90 + VAT. Just wondering if anyone knows if it's a easy replacement job or not?
