Quotes Reimagined: Directly Accessible, Synchronized, and Intuitive

Until now, handling quotes has been rather inconvenient — they were hidden behind a button at the bottom right of the screen, were not particularly intuitive, and changes were only visible in other browser tabs after reloading.

WoltLab Suite 6.2 changes this fundamentally:

• Direct integration into the tab menu below the editor – quotes are always visible and immediately accessible.
• The display is more closely aligned with the final display, giving users a realistic feel for the final formatting as soon as they insert the quote.
• Particularly practical: quotes are now synchronized across browser tabs. A newly created quote is immediately available in other open tabs – without having to reload.

More Expression: Emoji Picker in the Editor

The classic smiley selection was limited in its variety — users these days expect more ways to express themselves. With the new emoji picker, the editor now offers a significantly expanded repertoire:

• Easy access via a button in the editor.
• Search function for quick selection of the desired emoji.
• Categorized navigation, as familiar from smartphones – familiar and efficient.

Previously, file attachments were displayed in the order in which they were uploaded – changes could only be made by having to delete and re-upload them.

The following changes have been made to improves this:

• Reordering using drag & drop directly when composing or editing a message.
• The order is permanently saved as soon as the message is submitted.
• Moving is only possible via the icon or thumbnail to avoid clashing with other functionality:
  • The file name remains active as a link – e.g. for calling up the image viewer.
  • Improved recognition on smartphones prevents unintentional movement when scrolling.

Optimized Image Processing: Conversion to WebP and Removal of Exif Data

The new upload pipeline brings significant improvements for handling images – both during upload and in terms of storage requirements:

• Optional: Automatic conversion to the efficient WebP format: saves storage space and improves loading times.
  • Can also be applied retroactively to images that have already been uploaded in order to compress them as well.
• Optional: Remove EXIF data to prevent the unintentional upload of sensitive information (e.g., location data).
  • The EXIF data is still stored separately in the database – for targeted evaluation or display (e.g., in a gallery).
• These functions are not limited to file attachments, but also apply to the following as of version 6.2:
  • User cover photos and avatars
  • Cover photos in the blog
  • File images in the Filebase
