How much fuel can you get in?

I've managed about 30 - 32mpg on average tootling along at 60-70mph.

If someone is good at maths...

I travelled from Aberdeen to Harrogate on £50 of unleaded at 97p a litre. Distance to Harrogate from Aberdeen is 340 miles.

It is.
I refuelled a few minutes ago to the brim with 88L. The OBC test#7 spoke of 0.6L remaining. I´d say it is pretty accurate (1.6% deviation).

Normally the orange light goes off once the digital averaged tank content drops below 10.0.

Maybe your fuel tank is indented. This is known to happen when pressure equalization fails (eg vaccuum develops). I do not know whether there are reports for this happening with plastic tanks though.
Else your fuel sending unit (which is god knows where) may be "misaligned"
