Cd player lens cleaner

  • In the light of many CD lens cleaners not suitable for car CD Players (no idea why) anyone recommend a first class product.

  • CD lens cleaners is usually just a waste of money and time I'm afraid.
They also several times jams CD player mec. specially magasin players.

I have several times had good result by cleaning lenses on CD players , but only by opening them and using Q tips directly on the lens.

First add a bit of water on the Qtip then gently wipe the lens in circles next use the dry end to get lens absolutely dry.

NEVER use alcohol or other stuff as lenses are made of plastic and will get damaged.

If this does not work , the next step is usually to replace Laser mec.

i agree mr HULDRA i've tried many things myself, but strip down & a wipe over with a Q tip wins every time. Works for me !

Thanks...but are we talking multi-changer and how do you strip it down without taking it to a specialist audio guy.

Multi changes can be tricky to dismantle and would not recomend to do so if you have no experience.
But on some of them the cover can easily be removed , and possibly then the Laser unit is visible.

And anyway if it's already broken, what's the risk??? other then to break it even more;-)

Sorry but can't remember these ones anymore other then it's really a Pioneer player ( assuming it's original BMW we are speaking about )
Have repaired some of these in my previous job but it's 10 years ago
Only thing that pop's up in my mind is that they are monted internally with some spring/damping mec. and think this was also fixed to the cover.

  • Thank you Terje...if as you say CD lens cleaners are rubbish, then I have been quoted £15 to clean by an audio expert so I think I may as well pay him rather than break it

:) No wonder i didn`t get my expencive Pioneer DVD player to function again. I have over the years used 96 % or aftershave :naughty:

    Wot :hmmmm:

 96% is Norwegian moonshine :harhar:

But will not be good on a plastic lens as it will make the surface dim.

Thanks for the education .....WOW :devilchilli:
