Hot Air Behind Consul

Seems like you heater matrix is fully on. Check the heating control valves on the engine-side of the bulk-head, on the left side of the car. The default position is Fully Open, so either they are stuck or are no receiving the proper signals from the IHKA control unit.

so much so thet if I use a tape in the deck it comes out boiling hot

You say behind the centre consul?
So are you getting hot and cold through the vents or just hot, as my old one used to get very warm behind there, but still blew cold air if required.
