I am not sure about California--have not lived there for years-- but up here in Oregon the parts guys in the store just look at you funny when you mention the 8 series. The dealers see multitudes of $$$$$ floating thru the air when you ask.

They even do Rover parts now which is handy for me. That is another funny look from most parts places.

I think Bavarian AutoSport is the best site I have found for 8 series parts. They aren't always the cheapest you can find but much cheaper than dealer and they do carry quality parts. Have ordered many parts here and have been very satisfied with both the parts and the service. Here is a link to their homepage:

I checked out the site Terry from Oregon mentioned above and it has some stuff that I don't think Bavarian AutoSport has. I do believe Bavarian AutoSport has more parts than the other site for my 850i but his site does seem to have alot of small parts such as bolts, gaskets, bulbs, etc. eBay has been a great place to find 850 parts but you must be careful of the quality of the part you are bidding on. As you will find, if you haven't already, getting the right parts, at the right price for an 8 series is often challenging. My first car in 1973 was a 1971 Triumph TR6. So, I got an early start at locating hard to find sports car parts.
