I'm also attempting to insert these vents. Going to do the cutting tomorrow. Please can anyone offer any advice on what type of adhesive to use for bonding steel to aluminium?

Paul I'll be using sikaflex panel adhesive, where did you get your vents?
-
thanks for that info. how are you finding positioning the vents? that bonnet doesn't have a square edge anywhere! i've guessed all the measurements so far by scaling photographs.
I just went to a local engineering shop for the vents. The guy there owns an Ultima GTR so he was very enthusiastic about making parts for a car. -
I can mail you the details.

The bottom edge needs to be 135mm from headlight, the middle raised part of the bonnet should be almost parallel with the vent, the outside edge being parallel also, weather permitting I'm 'going for it" tomorrow also;-)
-
again, appreciated. i think i'm 20mm too low with my measurements. is 135 to the first vent? this is good news as i thought i was too close to the frame. "almost parallel?" that's been my problem all day. since the vents don't actually follow any of bmw's curved lines i think that the vents will look good wherever you put them. symetry is the issue. I'm going to make a template from mdf/ hardborad. once i've cut one out then i can apply it to the other side. that said i'm pretty confident i've drawn them out reasonalby well.
I wish you all the best for tomorrow steve. Shame you've decided against the naca/nana duct. how you spell it depends on how much JD you've drunk!

Yeah 135 to 1st vent edge & not any flanges as in both our vent styles
-
flanges?

flanges?
The Metal frame external to the louvres;-)
-
so you cant see into the engine from the sides?

so you cant see into the engine from the sides?
No, The vents are cut into a piece of metal;-)I was referring to the Margin around the vents?, so measure to the actual bottom edge of the louvre/Bloody hell this is getting stressful
-
Slightly rude sounding word, flanges.
-
sorry for any stress. not intentional. just trying to get as much help as possible before making the cut
