Alpina B12 5.7 #22 for sale in Norway, Brokatrot exterior / Lavalina leather

  • one of the most gorgeous e31's i've seen. I've always loved the red b12's but this...this is probably the only other color that would make me derail from my red-centric car purchases. The interior is perfect too...so classy.



    That front air duct under the hood is kinda dirty though...i'm going to have to decrease the value by 40k :mrgreen-angel: Jokin'

    It does live in sunlight, else it is a, ummm, difficult colour ;)


    The car certainly is an outstanding example especially with the interior that was installed by Alpina early in this decade.
    Before this conversion was done it looked much less appealing:



    It so happened that a bunch of M1 drivers visiting the upholstery shop at Alpina in Buchloe found the very set of chairs in the making in 2003.



    It is a great car for the real B12 enthusiast, although it comes at an enthusiasts price.

    So the first picture is the original interior of this Brokatrot alpina and then, it was sent BACK to alpina to get the interior updated? It's amazing!! I wonder how much this 'update' had to be paid by teh owner. I wasn't aware Alpina would do such updates either. I guess they stand by their cars even after sold (assuming the seller is willing to pay!)

  • Reinhard: You don't happen to have any articles or info on the Shifttronic B12 Coupés? Like how they are to live with / drive, and reliability? I've heard the Shifttronic clutch is a bit of a hassle.

  • Apart from the few lines in the old Alpina brochure there is but one German language formal description of the workings of the Shift-Tronic. Use Google Translate and see whether you can extract more than you already know.


    The few users I know driving a car with it installed have mixed experiences. It is said that when it is working properly it is great fun only once it fails on you it can become a PITA. It is known to fail. :dontknow:


    As far as I can see about half of the 5.7 cars delivered from Buchloe had Shift-Tronic installed initially. We already know of a few that had this reverted back to fully manual. I know of no one who did it the other way around.


    Very expensive to fix, only fixable in Buchloe, not the brightest example of reliability. Parts support at least questionable.


    I have heard owners using the term Shit-Tronic too :roll:


    But still... what a great idea!

    If it breaks, is it driveable? Or do you have to trailer it to Buchloe?

  • If there is not enough pressure in the hydraulics system it will quickly ruin the clutch (unaltered from CSi). The system seemingly is laid out similar to the brake/AHK system with it having a pump that builds up initial pressure and a pressure reservoir similar to the brake bomb with those mechanically operating the clutch. Multiple modes of failure come to mind and all target your very expensive clutch :roll:


    As if this weren´t enough - the shifting knob has some kind of a sensor which is yet another thing that can fail and has failed.


    In the end there are a lot of things that can go wrong and each of those will leave you stranded with an otherwise functional car. Trailer time, no emergency "manual" program possible, no foldable clutch pedal in the boot ;)


    The worst bit probably is that no one apart from the few guys in Buchloe who installed this can fix a problem. It can be diagnosed but only with Buchloe equipment, it can be fixed but only by Buchloe mechs, there are replacement parts but only in Buchloe.


    On top of that with only ca. 30 of those installations in total there is a chance that once the last part of a kind is gone or the mech retired you´ll be all alone....

    Still in Norway and new owner , he participated at the Vienna meeting and also the 8er/Alpina tour with this car .l did try it this summer :)

    That car really felt like a new car :cool:

  • HOLLY CRAP! Excellent pictures!


    I haven't been able to see all pictures because i'm still in the office (late day for me today..yuk) but so far i'm impressed!


    I'm torn though. For one thing, I'm glad to see the Alpinas in their natural habitat...as they were engineered to exist...on the road taking long trips for the pleasure of driving. On the other hand, I'm used to seeing them in show quality and seeing them dirty and dusty like that at first made me cringe. But i'm sure if I were driving one of those alpinas the dust would be the least of my worries :)
