Wy is my fan running when I have the key ignition mode meaning just before start? It is also running constant when the engine is running, cold or warm! The car is from -91, is it suppose to act like this?

Is your A/C "on" or your HVAC control unit central roller wheel not in "0" ?
If yes, then it is normal...
Hi, my ac is on, when I put the roller in 0 it stops. Thanks for sorting this out for me, but my friend has a -92 and his fan is not in motoin until the engine need some extra cool air! Diffrent systems?

Your friend will likely find the resistor attached to the frame of the electric fan defective. This is a very common mode of failure. This resistor reduces the power to the fan when conditions are within specs (its specs are around 0.5 Ohm/100W - very expensive from BMW).
Cheers

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread but it's related.
My fan has started to become noisy, anyone opened and fixed the bearings?
Or is a replacement the only way with these?
Looks like an E36 (not Z3) would fit so they should not be too difficult to find in any case.
