Its a tremendous colour
Has a faintly bluish tinge, I believe which I've rarely, if ever seen photographed properly in good light.
Anyone got any nice, big, daylight photos showing off Fjord Grey on an 8?

It is a nice colour.. -
Here is one I took a couple of yrs down the line on a day not totally overcast. Shows a wee bit of that blue hue.

Here we are...
It is a nice colour..I'd theoretically swap my yellowbird for a Fjord Grey, that feeling doesn't happen often.
Thanks Balbo, and Reinhard!

Balbo / Reinhard - do you mind if I share those images on another E31 board?
Wanting to prove to a few doubters just how lovely a colour it is -
Actually no matter how melodic its name sounds... but I merely see GREY -
Thanks Danilo - you made me completely doubt myself!
I know what you mean - but colour and the E31 have an intimate relationship - very intimate. Therefore, IMO, subtle variations in shade/ colour have a massive bearing on one's own reaction to any E31, I think. Of course we all have our own preferencesFjord grey is, I guess a kind of gunmetal grey, but to me appears to have more depth and more of a blue grey than modern gunmetal greys, and for me the name Fjord has to be 50 times more appealing than the word ''gunmetal'
-
So… anyone else loves Fjord, or else finds it ordinary?
..We all know bold primary colours are best anyway, ha -
Danilo has yet to master the 50 shades of grey...
"Greys" don´t do much for me - the most interesting one on the 8 is i.m.o "Orinoco".
This also needs a very special type of lighting to come to life and to reveal the colours hidden in the muddy waters of the name giving river (although this match is pure coincidence - I assume that at BMW nobody EVER decided on names without prior intoxication):
In Spain, overcast:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26335/In the UK on that one sunny day
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26333/and in OZ:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26334/Free to use for those that have mastered the art of the grey whips

Nope, the wonderfully-named Orinoco a less appealing shade to me than Fjord Grey which to me is The Grey for our cars

Can you give us a top of the pops style run down of your top 10 colours?

Not sure I can manage a Top 10 Paul! I've seen very few E31s in unusual colours "in the flesh".
I'll try a Top 5 but in true Pirate spirit, these are more guidelines than actual rules as I don't always know the exact shades / names1) Wokke's Giallo Yellow
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26509/2) This Red:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26508/3) This one-off custom colour
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26510/4) This absolute-guesser of a colour, probably custom too:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26511/5) Koizumi Black:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26512/6) If any blue gets in, it'll be this one - I know not the name, it may not even be a real car by the look of it:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26513/Fjord Grey, regrettably doesn't quite make this list… but it would make the Top 10, along with Dakargelb obviously, and probably white...

Some names to unnamed colours:
2nd one is Brillantrot/Hellrot
3rd one is Messing Metallic (brass metallic) based on our fav Army green (Individual colour on E46/E39 onwards).
4th is heavily "shopped" and originally named Titan/Capri Gold in the UK (Yes, Vauxhall....)
5th is heavily "shopped" and unaltered listens to the name "Black"
6th is .... you guessed it... taken from Forza and has no real world counterpart
Reinhard -
Number 4 stands currently by Alex and Andy in Groß Gerau. What a massive back end!
(It's for repair there... not for salvaging.)Cheers,
Steve -
Thanks for clarifications Reinhard!
However - No. 5 is most certainly not heavily Shopped.
It is however heavily Zaino'd. -
When you say No.4 is 'shopped Reinhard. The whole image looks normal - are you saying the car isn't really the colour it appears to be?
-
Both #´s 4 and 5 have been mangled by those dastardly "Instagram" filters. No idea what they´re for other than ruining piccies
Fortunately it does not have much of an effect on "Black" - only the surroundings become slightly surreal
Ye orange Hartge H2 looked like so on unadultered celluloid:
8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26516/ 8er.org/forum/index.php?attachment/26517/Cheers
Reinhard -
Thanks for the shots of the Orange Hartge. That remains one of my favourite colours..
Regarding Pic No 5 - Reinhard, I've seen a series of huge photos of Koizumi's 8 and as far as I know and as far as anyone has admitted: they aren't Instagram Filtered and the car really does look like that. Shines like no other 8 I've seen.
-
As I wrote it does not change anything regarding the lustre and colour of this car.
Only everything around it clearly shows that the original picture has been "modified". Or do you have rusty brown shadows under your car and inside the rims?
It is a filter similar to those often used in Top Gear flicks - darkened corners etc. Good for effects, not good to judge colours.Cheers
Reinhard
