Hi Alasdair.
Find a local garage or aircon specialist and get them to run a anti baterial flush on your aircon system.
This is achieved by removing pollen filters and spraying a cannister of a anti baterial spray.
If im not right the smell is similar to a curry type smell if it is the same problem i have in my car.
A friend of mine who has a workshop near me has offered to do this for me.
Apparently mould bulilds up in the pipes hence the smell as passing air transfers the smell through the ventilation system.
I recommend you don,t do yourself as the spray is a form of acid which dissperses at high speed and is fairly toxic and a set proceedure has to be followed .
The product he uses is a German one called Wurth who manufacture a vast range of reliable and approved automotive products.
Also get them to test aircon system or take back to dealer as if they are not used all year on occasions they can disscharge.

Replace the microfilters first....relatively easy and inexpensive.

Air con clean up

Hi Alasdair.
Took car in today to have aircon done.
Have had pollen filters replaced and the whole system dissinfected as described in earlier posting.
Car now smells as fresh as a daisy with no nasty pong.
All it took was about 30 mins for whole proceedure.
I totally recommend anybody to overhaul thier system if it has not been done in the last 2 years of ownership.
