Broken Nose problems.......

  • Hi folks, looking for any advice or to hear if anyone else has suffered the same problem as this. The front lower centre section spoiler on my 840 has a clean break right thru the it causing it to flap around as two pieces. :( Has anyone suffered this before and managed to repair it? The estimate for replacement at a reputable bodyshop is about £980.
Any help or comments would be much appreciated.

  • Yikes ... sorry to hear that.

Is it a Sport Front end or standard ?

I was in at BMW bodyshop today getting sunroof seal fitted and aligned.
They had a beautiful silver 850csi in with what seems like similar problem.

Crap picture taken with my phone

It looked like the lower scoop on the front end had been hit hard and had broken in two - yet the upper nose and bumper seemed undamaged.

Perhaps the best way to get this fixed is taking to an independant bodyshop who could maybe put a bracket behind join to hold it together and do a good cosmetic repair on front to hold join. The other option is a dealer £££££

Either way it needs to be a good job as the front spoiler is not only for looks but acts as a funnel for air to cool the front brakes.

I may know of a breaker who has front end - but it would still need painting and fitting and depending on the damage to yoiur sit may be more economical and also get better results form repairing the existing one.

Best of luck - let us know how you get on.

EDIT: I have edited this post to display the picture correctly - Al

  • Ouch. Agreed you should get it stablised or replaced soon, would be nasty if it broke up and punctured tires on motorway.

For 51-11-2-253-000 (Front spoiler), I was quoted about a year ago $1090 (STG 468) and $450 (193) for labour and $400 (172) for painting...when I was looking at changing to sports spoiler. That is just for the front by the way, the rear avalance is same again. But BMW have reduced the front spoiler has reduced in price over the past 4 years, it used to cost even more.

    Hope this helps. Ian

  • Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes my spoiler has gone in the same place as the silver one in your photo Ian, and yes its the sport front end.

Have decided to use my protected no-claims benefit on this occasion, the estimate has come in at £990.97. :o

I have asked the bodyshop to give me back the old spoiler/ bumper back and a guy in the fibreglass trade I know has said he will see what he can do with it. So may be if anybody finds themself in the same situation and could have a spare one!

  • Just a thought but ..

    Jof,

Here's something to think about !!

Have you seen the 3M clear vinyl - anti chip film that can be applied to protect car against stone chips etc.

I know that my lower nose piece is prettyu chipped from stones.

Now would be a great time to protect yours if you get a new one and get it painted up nicely.

This is a US link - but I have seen the product available in UK (just can't find web link)
