What is the Csi like to drive every day?.

  • Hi peeps, i was a passenger in a J reg red 850i, but this was at the time when they were £30k on the forecourt, so kind of forgot what they are like on the move. First of all the car will be splattered in wax oil for rust purposes. I know it's not a balls out supercar ( word is can be alot of fun ) more of a special motorway cruiser. I did hear that the handling can pay dearly, also will give alot of rewards. Bmw's of this era tend to be bullet proof ( some of the latest are left to be desired a la M5 apparently the diff is fragile) but all cars suffer from some sort of niggly probs. I know Opec ( the fuel people ) should relocate to the fuel tank of the Csi. What are your thoughts about it.

    Nathan.

  • Hi Nathan,

Ok, so I dont have a CSi, but I do have a Ci Sport 4.4 , which according to some is not a million miles off the older Csi engines..... but I dont really want to ingnite that debate again !

However, I drive mine everyday, either around town, or lengthy motorway blasts and it's perfect. Yesterday for instance I drove to Central London and back in a day from Blackpool. Piece of cake, either crawling along in the traffic jams of the city, or eating the miles, quickly, on the M1 M6. For example, from start of M1 to Blackpool took an effortless 3hrs 20 mins, with two stops along way.

These things were built for cruising, and for the dosh there's nothing out there that even come close.

  • The CSi is awesome as a daily driver!!!!!!!! :D
Always get out of that car with a smile on your face!!!!!
Can't recommend it enough - but it's never gonna be that cheap!!

If driven hard all the time like mine is - i get about 13-14mpg according to the obc, so it's not cheap on fuel!!

Also, running cost just depends on your mileage and how hard you drive it!!
It's not cheap to service at a dealer - but find a specialist who knows what he's doing and that'll save you a fortune!!

It can be a pain in the arse though when you have to wait ages and pay a high price for a simple part that you need to get from a dealer!!

On the whole though i would say do it!!!!!!!

  • Hi Tony, although the 840 is a brilliant car and hope you get it fixed soon, i might ask Peter Rice if he will sell his yellow 8 ( ansewer will be no i rekon ) as every man has his price.

  • Hi

I drive my 1974 CSI every day on motorways and urban roads and can not fault it for comfort and handling and acceleration.
It can be expensive on repairs and fuel, but do not buy one if you want to save money or upset the wife.

    Allen
