Hello Guys,
Can anyone tell me what the best solution is to the rust the developed along the edges of my sunroof where it meets the weather strip.
What is the best solution replace or repair. What about replacing with carbon fiber. Does anyone know where I can get one?
Thanks.
Noel
Sunroof Rusting

Noel, earlier in the year I changed mine because of this reason (as did Tall Tony). When I removed my panel what looked like a little bit of the rust on the outside turned out to be a lot of rust on the inside so my advice is buy another panel get it painted etc and refitted its better in the long run.

take into consideration the time and effort trying to save the existing panel, and the likelyhood that it will start to rust again after a few months if not done 100% (or even if it was) then you are much better off buying a new panel and seal, and having that fitted.
They are not that expensive really, all things considered
-
how much are they, roughly??
-
IIRC I paid around £150 for the panel, plus £25 or so for the seal. I'll dig the invoice out if I can find it and confirm.
Then painting and fitting, but I had the whole car done at same time so can't comment on what the roof cost....

Is the seal glued on or does it 'slip' on?
-
Small rust bubbles on the surface are deceptive. I had such on the corner of my roof, the leading edge of the sunroof and just above the rear screen. When the body shop stripped back to repair and paint they discovered large holes in the roof. I've had a new roof and sunroof fitted.

I bought a seal from the $tealers the other day and it was £ 53.51 inc VAT.

Was it exactly the same as the one fitted?
I'm thinking about changing mine -
I could have another closer look tomorrow (I haven't fitted it yet) but yes, I think it's the same.
