EDC and Opinions please

  • Thought I would bring this to the top, I know this has been discussed before but I have been advised to stay away from EDC due to the high costs if the system fails, how can you tell when the EDC has failed and if it has can I replace it with specialist/sports suspension shocks/parts? and how much would this cost?
Any info would be very much appreciated.

  • My car has EDC.
I was warned off EDC before buying it.
I know that it will cost to replace the shocks when they go, though there may be a promising new rebuild service being offered by a company in Northants.
    I am an EDC convert.
Supreme comfort around town and when cruising, flick a switch then and nice and tight when on the twisty bits.
    However - I think I'm in a minority here.
Possibly, a minority of one

  • I'm not to sure UKZERO I'm haveing a delema at the moment as on of my fornt shocks is spongy:motz:

Looking at the latest thread about this I think I will give those chaps in Northants a call as £300 each side is a very attractive proposition, 8Tech has a good section on this have a look.

You are right about the ability to change the stiffness though magic ain't it :devilchilli:

  • I have EDC and its brilliant - nice and smooth on the motorway, protects the springs when going over rough/bumpy ground (I have to traverse an unmade road to get from home to the highway), then switch to S setting when I want to throw it round the bends!

  • Thanks Guys, I like the sound of EDC although must admit did not notice it much when I took the car for a test drive, I was told that it takes time to kick in, also how do you know when the EDC have failed? £300 per side does not sound to bad, what is the alternative?

Sounds like on this vehicle it already has! The difference in suspension between the 2 settings is very obvious, and occurs almost as soon as you flip the switch.

  • Yes Keitheva is right ( :top: Hi Guys) I have noticed on switching to S mode on the gear box that it has taken a little time for the car to change attitude, so it's time to look at these items

I have been informed the each unit from Germany is arround £1800 so the rebuild cost is a very good option - there is a thread talking about this with all the contact details for the company who provides this service.

    Has anyone had this done?

  • Just found the thread for the suspension change, the company is Spotsline suspension Ltd they are in Northants the contact is a chap called Jon and his e-mail address is "Jon@sportslinesuspension.com"[/email]

Basically you can send your old ones for refurb pay them and wait or request already refurbished units (If they have them in stock) and send yours back within 5 days of fitting the stock ones, following payment of course, which I think is a good idea provided eveyone sticks to the deal.

Give Jon a nudge he will explain everything to you better than I

  • I can only assume that my EDC is working correctly, but based on this assumption, I agree with others that flicking the switch makes an almost instant and very obvious difference to the car's feel.
In fact, going from K to S and standard auto to steptronic means it's a bit like owning two different cars - making the 8 even better value! :)

  • Steve,
I notice you live in Worcester? Fancy meeting up for a chat/drive? I live between Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow, near Clee Hill.
