Instrument Binnacle just died!

    I got back into the 8 this afternoon having driven it earlier and noticed that the speedo clocks were dead! The instrument dials are all inoperative but the dash illumination still comes on when the lights are flicked on and the indicator flashers work too.


    I tried turning the car off and back on again in hope that it was a momentary glitch but alas no. The airbag, warning and check lights come on with the ignition but the odometer reading is totally blank too.


    Can anyone shed some light on this? I hope it's a simple fix!

    Do the instruments work in self test mode? Press the trip reset and turn on the ignition to do the test. All of the needles should cycle to full scale.

    It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others. Mine sometimes feels that way.

    Had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me 4,000 miles ago

    • Winter, start from cold,
    • Drove car,
    • No instruments -all dead.
    • Park car after 5 mile drive,
    • Return to car 1 hour later,
    • Ignition on,
    • All fine & instruments work

    Never happened again!

    Now what's that all about?
