Log out help

  • Is it possible to remain logged in to this forum for more than about 15 minutes? Very often I come back to check something and have to start the whole procedure again by logging in. Is there a time out setting that I am not aware of?:dontknow:

  • Timeout afaik is set to 60 minutes. Normally, if you click the button "Remember Me" you ought to be logged in again after a page refresh. I do not know whether this disables the timeout entirely since I am not using it but it is maybe worth a try.
If it takes you too long to finish a posting this may seem gone but (for me) it reappears after a new login if tracking back a few pages (browser´s back button).

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers
    Reinhard

  • Thanks Reinhard, that's useful information.

In fairness I was probably exaggerating at 15 mins but it has caught me out a few times when nipping back & forth to the garage and most often when the wife tells me that "dinner is on the table" and I have to leave a search that has taken ages to find.

  • The default session timeout for the vBulletin forum software is 900 seconds (15 minutes), but the forum administrator can change this. I don't know what session timeout this forum is set to (ask Martin or Christoph), but if you tick the "Remember Me?" checkbox upon log in, your session will be permanent.

  • General tips for using internet forums:
    1. Use tabs. Have searches / forum indexes in one tab, open threads in other tabs. This can be done by holding ctrl when clicking the link.
    2. Use something other than Internet Explorer. Despite it's name, it's not very good for exploring the internet.
