Hi all, I have recently been getting the twin yellow lights of the ABS and ASC illuminating my dash. Having had the diagnostics checked, i was told I needed the O/S rear wheel sensor. A quick call to BMW and the guys at work had to pick me up off the floor £197 and lots of little penny's. I was then informed ' You can't get them anywhere else ' therefore leading me to think there could be a monopoly here. Apart from buying second hand can they be bought for less and if so where? The BMW part number is 34521181914 O/S rear.

The problem is that, although they can be bought in quite a few places, you just cannot be sure the blasted things are going to work! As you are in the UK, give Cotswold BMW a go, they have given me great prices on quite a few E31 parts:

Thanks Timm, I did ask if discount could be applied and got 5%. Won't pay for the petrol to pick it up. I also looked into the possibility of say an E36 one fitting but I can't find any info, which make me think they are probably bespoke.

I´d first give it a good clean. There is a lot of gunk accumulating on the ABS sensors and a thorough scrub removing all those magnetic particles may make things look less bleak. It may be very, VERY hard to get the ABS sensor out, especially if the aforementioned gunk has taken ownership of the tiny little hex screw holding tight to that sensor.
This little critter can turn out rather unpleasant, take your time and WD40....Good luck!

I'm sure you have checked already - but a RealOEM cross-reference brings up nothing but the E31!

I did have it out earlier this year and every thing was OK for a couple of months but I've had the lights come back on. I then removed it again and have done the resistance test, followed by the checking it against the near side and it is most defiantly US ( I now like to call it TRUMPED ). I have now dissembled it with a hacksaw and screwdriver and can see that the internal connections way way inside are completely corroded and TRUMPED. I do have a habit of taking thing apart hoping to fix myself but these things are non repairable in my opinion and many others obviously. My question really is can a cheaper one from another series fit and work?

Cheers Timm.

If you´re into trying another used one you can contact Tom Carter aka Wuffer in Canada. He maybe has a tested spare in his pocket. Else there are the guys from here - they have taken apart dozens of E31´s in the past.
Cheers

Yup, got a drawer full of abs sensors mostly from low mileage J-spec 850s. Will check tomorrow if I have any of the specified part number. Contact offline if interested.

Thanks all for your help, but as even second hand items over in the UK are nearly £100, I have decided to buy new from Cotswold BMW at a delivered price of £178. Hopefully it will last 20+years.
