Going to USA, want to get parts while I'm there

  • My job has decided to send me to Mobile, Alabama for 4 weeks as of next weekend.
While I'm there I thought I'd might get my hands on som cheap parts for my car (By cheap I mean the parts where I live is a lot more expensive then in the US).
So, are there any good places for BMW parts in that area, New Orleans maybe? Found out that Mardi Gras is while I'm there, sounds fun.
I might stay behind a week or so after my work there is done, thougth about going down to Miami and get some sun before I return home to freezing Norway.
Any good places for BMW parts in Miami??

You won't do any better than use Gault in New York State. If you have an address where they can dispatch parts and a credit card to pay for them. They typically give something like 30 - 35 % off list but do remember that you won't be able to get specific European only parts.

Here's the link to their web site

They have a toll free number and you can speak to either Dave Belknap or Charlie Spear to confirm availability before confirming your order

Enjoy your trip and hope Gault can help you out

  • Just need some standard parts.
New O2 sensors, ignition leads, distributor caps/rotors and maybe new coils.
My 8 is 17 years old, so to bring out all the juice in the engine I've decided to change these parts.
Idle speed is'nt as smooth as it should be, the head gasket is'nt leaking, so the ignition leads are next, I do have different camshafts on my car so maybe it's as smooth as it gets...... wont know untill I've canged them.
Can't see that there is a difference between US and Europe on these parts, though maybe the O2 sensor, emission values might be different, but I doubt that.

  • Welcome to US. Come visit us in Florida & parts

Hi Noggie: Check out the RF & 8-fest sites for info on our upcoming 8 series show here in Florida in February. Come on down or contact some of the people coming from Texas (TX Greg or RedCorvette63) driving through Alabama to Florida. There is a gentleman coming from Lousiana also. I'm sure you could ride with them if your schedule allows.

Regarding parts, I agree with Peterban as I use Gault for alot of parts. I also suggest Autohaus AZ as they carry alot of parts in stock and you can sometimes get a better deal on items like you described.

    https://www.autohausaz.com/

You could use the hotel address to have the parts shipped to as I have done this myself. Just call the hotel to make sure they will handle it properly. You may have to set a temporary address with your credit card to have items shipped to an alt address. If the hotel won't help send me an e-mail & I'll send you my phone number as any one of us from the 8-seris club & BMW CCA will be happy to help you out.

I live in the Orlando area and would be happy to show you around if you want to stop on by to visit.

    This sounds great.
Really appreciate you're offers, and I just might take you up on them.

My work schedule is initially for 4 weeks, but it might be longer.
Will be working 12hour days 7 days a week so I don't have much spare time, however after the 4 or so weeks of work I have the same amount of weeks off, and thats when I thought I'd look around.

If I could check out some BMW events while I'm over there that would be great.
Just hope I don't miss my car too much attending such an event. I have'nt driven my 8 since December 3rd because it's stored for the winter, my 8 will never see salty roads. Probably wont drive it untill April/May and thats a long, long wait.

  • Update to your schedule??

Hi Noggie: I take it that you are here in the U.S. now, yes? Hope you had a good trip over here. I've made the trip from Norway & Sweden a few times myself.

How is your search for the parts you need for your 850? If you need any help or have any questions, send me an e-mail or give me a call 4076796460. Our little event in Mt. Dora, Florida for the end of February is really coming together with a lot of people. Hope you can make it. If not, there are some other events coming up through the local BMW clubs. Check out the link below.

  • Yes I'm here, in the middle of nowhere, Pascagoula, Mississippi.
I have'nt been able to check for parts yet since we do 12 hour days here at the yard, mostly work, eat and sleep.....
And Pascagoula is'nt the beste place for parts eighter.
Tonight we're going up to Mobile, Alabama. A larger place and there might be a posibillity to get parts there.
I'm supposed to work 12 hours every single day (incl. weekends) untill March 3. and I'm aloved in the country untill March 13.
I guess I'll be looking for parts in that little window of time, if they dont want me to work then too.

Because of my work schedule I wont be able to go to the February event, I'll check the links you posted and see if any will fit my schedule.

  • Noggie,

How did you get on in regards to parts etc. I off to florida next month for a month (i may book the car into the bodyshop while I'm away). Any top tips for bits?

:driving2:Its been a year since I sold her and I still miss her.......

    Lloyd

  • Hey Lloyd.

I would recoment you call Dave Belknap at Gault Auto in New York (BMW dealer).

    http://www.gaultauto.com

He set me up with all the parts I needed, and I saved a bundle...

Sadly I left a bit earlier then expected so he had to send the part to me in Norway, and I had to pay Norwegian toll on them (still saved alot).
They would have sent them to my hotel but that fell through.

My advise is to contact Dave ASAP with a list of the parts you need, and then get him to ship the parts to youre hotel and just bring them home in youre bags when you return.

If you contact him make sure you tell him that you got the tip from this forum, I think I got a discount because of that.

    Happy shopping.
